White people co-opting the blues, watering it down and calling it something different. I appreciate learning the source of a bunch of songs that I've always heard playing, but I don't think I need to listen to this again.
Terrific album. I had never heard of Joan Armatrading. Folk rock, with an edge of r&b. Four of the songs are bangers. I really enjoyed "Love and Affection" and "Somebody Who Loves You."
It's fine, but there's plenty of better jazz to get through before you get to this record.
Nothing special. I'm glad I listened to it again, but I never got the love for The Smiths.
