I think I overdid this album and trip-hop in general in the early ‘90’s. Mezzanine was my preferred album.
I can tell my rating will be impacted by my mood and what I’m doing while I listen. I forgot all about this album (and band) and it took me right back in time. I was driving the highway with the windows down and the stereo turned way up. It was a lot of fun. Wish there were .5 scores, as this is a 3.5 in my books.
I liked that more than I was anticipating. I sure wish this rating scale was out of 10, as 1-5 is a tight parameter for 1001 albums! I’d like to give this a 3, but I like my other “3” albums way more…
Didn’t hate it. I respect The Boss for sure. I’d go see him if someone gave me a ticket, just wouldn’t buy the album.
I didn’t view the daily album until 9:30pm, and as soon as I saw this, I was scared I was going to have to run out and get a case of beer and a pack of Export A Lights. 😆
Was great. Being a soundtrack made before the “mixed tape” era, some songs were obviously more soundscape-y, but some of the songs had some killer groove to them.
At first I though, oh jeeze… but once again pleasantly surprised. What was once controversial and heavy metal, is now pretty tame rock’n’roll.
Super fun. I can’t believe this came out ‘77. Must’ve blown some minds. 👏
I preferred the last few tracks of the “true” Blues. Once again I wish I could give this album a rating of 3.5.
I’m a sucker for Garage Rock, and the fact this album was created in the ‘60’s, and the band members dressed up at shows, those are also pluses for me. My spidey-senses did tingle with possible misogynistic lyrics, but again, it was the ‘60’s and most lyrics were all about “boys & girls”.
I’m not typically a fan of the Rock Opera, but this of course has some fun nostalgia linked to it.
