Respect is a classic for obvious reasons. Really good album, interesting blues guitar work on a couple tracks. Fantastic voice. Probably would have been a 5/5 record in '67 but there's definitely something not quite there in my opinion.
Long instrumental jazz songs in a short album. Loved it. One song got added to the 10 minute songs playlist. No guitar big sad.
Title track solo is legendary, gotta learn that so I can steal some licks from it. Life in the fast lane is great and victim of love is pretty good but the whole rest of the album kinda failed to strike a chord with me. Not saying it's bad but it's just not my speed. Drumming gets stale when you listen to the whole album all the way through but I get why. Would be 3 stars but that solo kicks it up to 4 all by itself imo.
South African album with a healthy dose of English and a cover of house of the rising sun. Vibrato and dynamics are awesome and the music did a good job of overcoming the language barrier
Shoegazy vocals but way less intense guitars. Not a bad song on the whole album. Can't quite think of any band that really sounds like them. Interesting guitar work the whole way through and great pacing from track to track. Excellent album.
Intense. Punk rock at it's finest. Groovy bass lines for days. Simple but effective guitar work. Never gets stale. Vocals perfect for the context they're in. Rude and kinda vulgar lyrics. Perfect. Already very familiar with the album but Pulling Teeth, F.O.D. and All By Myself really caught me by surprise. All By Myself really did a good job of leaving me wanting more at the end of the album.
First impressions from looking at the tracklist is that all the songs have oddly long titles. After listening to it it's awesome. Five stars. Perfect. Light vocals, lots of intentional reputation and an interesting song structure that seems to melt as the song goes along. Couple saxophone solos that rip and a good guitar solo on one track.
I listened to the first couple tracks and decided to stop since four of the tracks aren't on Spotify and I didn't feel like finding them elsewhere. It wasn't bad i just didn't find anything in it for me and the vocal delivery between the first two tracks blended together. The industrial sounds were cool. I just didn't like it.
Great album. Wish there had been more thematic variety. I did get a bit of that from In The Ghetto and Don't Cry Daddy. The same sound kind of wore on me after a while and some the songs blended together a bit but it was an excellent performance.
Good album but just really weird. The last 2 tracks are the best imo.
5/5. There's a reason this band has the reputation they do. Not my style but it's a perfect album.
The weirdest music I have ever listened to. I try to be open minded but this is just weird. Ubu Dance Party is the most musical track maybe the last track too. I can't really figure out any redeeming qualities. Must not be for me.
all through the night synth solo really comes out of left field, horn solo in yeah yeah was my favorite part of the whole album. her vocal style can be just the slightest bit harsh when listening to the whole album. good songs. couple of pieces of semi interesting guitar work that caught my ear but just not my cup of tea.
Very American sounding instruments. Would be four stars if there was any English on it but as it is it kinda blends together for me.
I had only heard black pumas play Fast Car. I knew it was a cover but just wow. The only song that felt out of place was Behind The Wall because it didn't have any instruments at all. Perfect record. I had no idea Tracy Chapman had such a gift from God. Good guitar work on a couple of tracks too.
Didn't really stick in my mind, I think it's really good and really creative but it just isn't my thing. I thoroughly enjoyed listening but I don't feel a desire to listen again. I think if it was more my speed it would be 5 stars.
Top notch song writing on this album but there wasn't anything that really jumped out at me. Favorite tracks were the story of Isaac, the old revolution, you know who I am, and tonight will be fine. Would have liked more dynamics.but that's not really the style. I want to give this album a 3.5 but it's good enough to bump to a 4.
Musical mush, the last few tracks are kinda interesting but I look forward to never listening to this record again.
Perfect folk punk album. Absolutely loved it.
Favorite tracks are Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, and Got To Get You Into My Life especially. Perfect record.
Not a whole lot of songs. I'm gonna leave you baby is my favorite but every track is a banger. Perfect record, wish it was longer.
5/5, penthouse pauper and good golly miss Molly especially are some of the finest blues playing I've ever heard. Perfect record.
Excellent blues album. 5/5 Didn't expect B.B. King to be able to sing the way he does.
