Rock solid all the way through. I was quite familiar with all the singles, and have listened to the album completely several times in the past, and as usual it sneaks up on me just how good it is. Great balance between polished production and the fuzz and grunge of the distorted guitar. Memorable guitar work, catchy choruses. Everything that rock 'n' roll should be.
There's nothing objectionable about it, which I guess was the whole genre. Unfortunately every song kind of blends into the next, and I find myself listening to the sound without really hearing the words. The style is not my jam.
One of the all time great albums. "Five Years" and the title track are my favourites, but the album doesn't miss, but the album is phenomenal cover to cover. Even the worst stuff that Bowie ever wrote is top tier, and this is his opus.
I remember when this album came out, it was huge. It was unlike anything that was in the pop music space. It's influence is undeniable. That said, I haven't listened to this album in 20 years.... and to tell you the truth, it'll probably be another 20 before I listen to it again. Even the hits haven't aged well, and the filler even less so.
Kind of interesting, but very same-y throughout the whole album. Shoegaze isn't really my jam. Kind of fun alt-rock guitar (kind of like REM?) but the droning vocals were getting tiresome by the end of the album.
This was way more awesome than I expected it to be. It's got that Jethro Tull/Kansas kind of prog feel with a lot of piano parts, and the songs do not follow that radio rock "verse, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus outro" formula, and instead meander and weave, different instruments and volumes and layering that really explores the sonic space.
So while I'm not a big hip-hop/rap guy, I usually like stuff that is "funky" a little more musical. I expected to enjoy this album, thinking it would be maybe similar to early 2000s Outkast, but I found that I couldn't get into very much. It seemed kind of low energy.
For an album that I remember really enjoying back in the day, I didn't enjoy it as much now. I think my tastes have become a little bit more melodic.
Pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of U2, but I think I actually prefer this album to Joshua Tree.
I've heard "Frontier Psychiatry" before and thought it was pretty neat, but listening to the whole album I just wasn't into it. Maybe if I was stoned and in the dark and concentrating on 100% it would do something for me, but with a fairly passive listen I couldn't dig it.
So I've straight up never heard of this band. Never heard of the album, never heard any of the singles. And it was terrific. It's like a Talking Heads sort of thing, with a lot of cool vocal harmonies. Like if the Beach Boys were an 80s new wave band. Anyhow, loved it.
Radiohead is talented band that writes well crafted and well polished intricate progressive songs.... that I have no desire to listen to. Due to the overwhelmingly positive reputation that Radiohead has, I've given them an honest listen numerous times, and it has never "clicked" for me. And it's like... I listen to a lot of esoteric and diverse music across genres, and this sort of self-masturbatory prog should be right up my alley, but it just isn't.
Pretty cool, kind of rock, kind of reggae, kind of R&B.
This was.... awesome. I don't know what I was expecting, but what I got was something that sounded as if George Harrison, during his sitar phase, put out an album of proggy instrumental jams.
