Crime Of The Century
Supertramp
I’ve never listened to an album this old! This felt experimental, old school, rock and soul all at once. The genre often changed during the course of a single song. The band (?) definitely played around with sounds and effects. Loved the sax. Some songs left me a little confused and unsure about their meaning. But three I definitely liked: Hide In Your Shell, Rudy (!!), Crime Of The Century. The first two with really good lyrics. The second one especially I related to a lot sadly but it’s a perfect song to dedicate to someone in a way — deep but not in an obvious way, still original. The third one with few lyrics but the sound, the beat is quite good and interesting and powerful.

What I can say about this album is that I listened to an album. That’s it. The fact that it took me so long to focus and listen to it attentively is proof enough that I didn’t like it very much. I can appreciate it deals with some controversial topics that must have been not very talked about at the time, taboo. But is the first song straight up racist/sexist? It doesn’t make a difference anyways because I didn’t like it, so I won’t be listening to it. There was a song is particular that made me feel relieved when the singing stopped and the instrumental melodies began — like thank god. I liked I Got The Blues, the latter part of Sister Morphine, Can’t You Hear Me Knocking.
Oh god, I really don’t like country. Is this rock or country? The very country ones I don’t like with the weird singing that almost sounds off key because of how squeaky it is. The lyrics of the last song, Moonlight Mile, are kinda good but the sleazy was ruins it for me.

The Genius Of Ray Charles

[07/09/2022] Fucking great. I knew my lucky number three wouldn’t let me down. The lyrics are good. The sound is better. Great both for listening attentively and for letting it play in the background as you do something else… I think this was soul/jazz?
Life kinda sucks rn but this definitely helps… I can make my days a little better just by listening to this. And Ray Charles was blind too?! Damn. Oldest album yet too, 1959. I wonder what the oldest one will be.

The most recently released album yet, 2019. I had never heard of this artist before and I don’t think I had ever listened to one of his songs. The album was mediocre to me, but it wasn’t bad. The last 3-5 songs are better in my opinion. It has an interesting sound and despite the fact that I like chill music, maybe this was too chill for me. I think the goal here was this very simple, stripped back sound and slower rhythm. It’s just not my cup of tea. I like his voice though. Just too simple or repetitive for me personally.

The Queen Is Dead
The Smiths
[09/09/2022]
I see what they did here, the queen dies and the next day everyone gets this album recommended to them.
And I thought I was gonna enjoy it because it’s The Smiths and even though I had never listened to them it was always the nerdy kids that liked The Smiths and I’m a complete nerd. But I just really didn’t like it!! I don’t have much to say because I couldn’t manage to pay enough attention to know what it’s about… Maybe I’ll try again this weekend.

I guess I’ve become lazy with my reviews or too busy with life. But this was good. An easy 3.5 or 4 stars
