Fulfillingness' First Finale
Stevie Wonder
LOVE his voice and the more laid back feel of the song. I also really enjoyed the lyrics of some of these songs, just some of them are a bit too slow / bland for my taste currently. For some reason some of the songs remind me of Christmas songs or just Christmas time. Also of jazz / music you would listen to on a night drive, which is nice, but some of them kind of blend together for me. Some of the longer intros/outros also kind of threw me off because I’m not really used to that. Most of these songs don’t have a lot of replayability individually for me and my taste. The language switch up in Bird of Beauty was cool. There were some nice transitions between the tracks. Yeah there are moments in this album that are super Christmassy to me for some reason, but that’s not a complaint I love Christmas music. Overall I like the instrumental and the overall feel of the album, it was just a bit boring and there were only a few moments in the album / tracks that really stood out.

Coat Of Many Colors
Dolly Parton
I usually like country but this wasn’t really clicking with me for some reason. A lot of the songs were a bit too short for my taste and nothing stuck out to me in the songs. A lot of the tracks ended up blending together to me and there weren’t a lot of interesting moments instrumentally for me. A lot of the songs are also a bit too slow for my taste. Overall pretty boring in my honest opinion. I don’t really have much else to say. Coat of Many Colors, Traveling Man, Early Morning Breeze, and Here I am are the only tracks that I paid total attention to because I got bored of the other ones quite quickly.

The Queen Is Dead
The Smiths
Ummmm was this on purpose? Cause the queen literally just died today…. Anyways. I don’t have a ton to say about this because not much stuck out to me. I thought that the distorted vocals in the back of some of the songs, like in the outro of never had no one ever, were cool. I also enjoyed the melody of frankly, mr. shankly, but not enough to add it to my playlist. I guess it’s just not the type of music that I really enjoy or that sticks out to me. I really like the instrumental of bigmouth strikes again. The lyrics about Joan of Arc in that song are also interesting to me. I really enjoyed that song. Some of the long instrumental outros were a bit disinteresting to me. Religion is a pretty big theme in a lot of the songs, and it seems to portray it in a negative light, which kind of turns me off from the songs a bit. There is a light that never goes out was also enjoyable, but not quite enough to add it to my playlist on first listen. I think I’d probably like the whole album more if I listen to it a few more times.

I honestly don’t really like songs this long. Some of them were nearly 10 minutes long, which is just too long for my taste. I was worried this was going to be a purely instrumental album at first, but luckily it was just a very long intro in wonder wonder. I guess I have a short attention span but I just don’t like songs this long unless I’m listening straight through an album, but if it’s just on my normal playlist I feel like it just breaks up other songs and doesn’t fit, even if I like the song. Songs like this with a lot of just instrumental are better for background music in my opinion that they are for attentive listening. I didn’t dislike any of the songs necessarily, I just wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to them individually. I liked the jazz sound of survival, frustration, etc. His voice is nice too. Tbch I did skip through some of them like ¾ of the way through….they’re just so long…. I’m also confused about the placement of the intro. Oh wait, now I get it it’s not an intro for the album but for the song Nawa? I’ve never seen that done before, that's interesting. Nawa reminds me of walking into class in 5th grade and taking baths. The low ratings are not because I dislike the songs. I just don’t see me ever wanting to listen to them again because not much stood out to me and they blended together.

Paranoid
Black Sabbath
Looking at the credits, I like how all of the members of the band co-writ every one of the songs and they were all produced by the same person. I feel like that's pretty rare to see in 2022, at least in mainstream popular music. There seems to be a lot of repetition of melody in some of these songs, although that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I was actually really excited to listen to this album, and I guess I’m just not used to this type of music enough to really appreciate it. I liked these songs, but most of them were not enough to play by themselves later on. I also think the fact that I’m not used to hearing guitar solos, instrumental breaks, etc. in the songs I listen affects my enjoyment of this album.

L.A. Woman
The Doors
So I already had love her madly and riders on the storm saved to my liked songs, but I don't really recognize love her madly or even riders on the storm. I’ve heard about the doors quite a lot so I was pretty excited to listen to this, but I guess just like with the other ones this is just not the type of music that I typically like. That’s why I’m doing this though, to expand my music taste and get used to the sound of different genres and styles that I wouldn’t normally like. The pacing of the songs and their lyrics were pretty unpredictable for me. Like the lyrics seemed to be a lot more drawn out than I anticipated looking at them. I guess what I’m trying to say is I was expecting the singing and the progression of the songs themselves to be a bit faster. Maybe a bit too slow for my taste. Again, I skipped some of these songs like half or ¾ of the way through because they just were not piquing my interest at all. And it’s late and I have to be up early tomorrow for 12 hours and school. I really love the drums in these songs.

With The Beatles
Beatles
The fact that I’m only hearing the vocals in one earbud so far is really throwing me off from songs that I actually really like and would otherwise add to my playlist. I’m 4 songs on and the only one that’s heard any vocals is my right ear and it’s really bothering me. Why did they do that? Don’t Bother Me Sounds super similar to The Night Before to me… just something I noticed. I like the night before more though. No but seriously I think a lot of these songs would have made it into my playlist if the singing was in both earbuds. Are there a lot of people out there who actually like that? And all the instrumentals in the other ear? I don’t love it and it’s really throwing me off and making me not love these songs as much as I probably could. I love the lyrics of till there was you. They’re really cute BUT again kind of ruined by the split audio thing going on. I’ve heard please mister postman before, but I never knew that it was the beatles. Or maybe it’s a cover cause I know they’ve done a few covers before. I don’t mind (and actually kind of like) how short some of the songs are. I’m actually quite disappointed because most of these songs would probably make it to my playlist!! But the unequal audio kind of ruins the album for me. I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that I have a headache. Kind of a waste imho. Roll over beethoven only gets the highest rating because I’ve heard it before and it’s already in my playlist. If the audio were different it probably could have been several other songs that would have been my favorite. Oh- did I mention that I don’t like how the audio is split between headphones. :/

I honestly don’t love instrumental breaks in songs like in Tom Sawyer. To me they kind of break up the song. I still liked it though. I think it would have made my playlist without those. Also not a huge fan of fade-outs, but I get that they used to be a lot more popular than they are now. I also don’t really love songs without vocals like YYZ. They’re fine, but not something I would listen to unless to just put on in the background and kind of tune out. I liked the vocal section of the camera eye but it was WAY too long with too many instrumental sections for my taste. Not my taste overall.

Appetite For Destruction
Guns N' Roses
I already know and love welcome to the jungle and sweet child o’ mine. I feel like it’s really difficult to never hear those songs because they’re just so popular, and for good reason. For some reason I wasn’t expecting all the swearing. Maybe I’ve just never paid attention to the lyrics before. I also kind of recognized paradise city. I was doing some research on the band though and I’m a bit confused about the current lineup. Why is there a girl who is 30 years younger than the other members there? Obviously not relevant to this album, but I think it’s weird that that’s what they’ve resorted to at this point in time. I’m surprised that sweet child o mine has more streams that welcome to the jungle. I would have guessed that it would have been the other way around. I also hate looking up bands like this and seeing how old they are now. Obviously that’s what happens, but it still kind of creeps me out. Anyways about the music of this album… it definitely didn’t live up to my expectations, but I feel like since it’s not music I listen to normally it would probably take me multiple listens to grow to like these types of songs anyways. I looked up online at all the really great reviews of this album and how it’s like the greatest debut album of all time. I also didn’t know it was their debut album, which is impressive even if it’s not quite my style. For some reason I thought that they debuted a lot earlier. The beginning of you’re crazy sounds a bit like welcome to the jungle to me. Unfortunately I didn’t find any new songs to add to my playlist this first listen-through. I like that squeaky balloon sound at the beginning of anything goes. Okay I take it back I added anything goes to my playlist.

So I genuinely have very little to say about this. I kinda sorta liked some of the songs, but not much at all. The songs sounded the same to me and I was very bored. It was kind of a chore to get through this album if I’m being completely honest. Perfect Circle might be one of the most boring songs I’ve ever heard. Maybe I’m just tired, but these songs are seriously unbearably boring to me. The cover art is kind of intriguing. I think my neighbors have started to smoke. I keep smelling weed really strongly whenever I go out at night or open my window. This project has introduced me to a few songs I really like like Bigmouth Strikes Again by The Smiths, but now I’m just starting to realize that music critics and snobs hate to have fun and only like boring music. I’m so bored with listening to this album that I’m talking about other groups and personal matters in the notes. I’m only like 10 albums in though, so hopefully they will get better.

I wasn’t really expecting this. This is the kind of music I would expect to hear in Spongebob during his rave with the jellyfish. The first 2 songs sound like electric zoo. They are kind of funny to me, but uninteresting. I also do not like songs without lyrics, so none of these songs really stood a chance anyways. I probably wouldn’t even put any of these songs on as background music, except maybe Wilmot.

I didn’t realize it but I do think I know ex-factor. I normally don’t like speaking/breaks in music, but I actually really like the classroom love talk thing that’s going on in the intro and the other songs. I just gave the intro 2 stars cause it’s not really a song to me. The songs in the middle started to all sound kind of the same to me. Overall I like this album, but a lot of the individual tracks kind of fell flat to me.. I also recognize can’t take my eyes off of you.

I was expecting a different sound for this for some reason, even though I’ve never heard of this guy or this album. Pretty boring and cheesy and if I’m being honest, I think I was a bit too generous with ratings here. Probably should have been more one-star ratings. Oh well. At least it’s a relatively short album with shortish songs. I do like his voice at times, mainly in angels of ashes, but the songs are just not it. I don’t really like singer songwriter stuff.

This is both headache inducing and incredibly boring all at the same time. I feel like I haven’t really liked any of these albums so far, which is kind of disappointing. I don’t like how quiet the small amount of singing is. I have a headache. Okay seriously are these even songs? More like slam poetry which I hate. I want this album to end. I’m only at green light. I don’t think they even tried to make these “songs” sound good. I’m exhausted. People are weird. Who would like this? I’m convinced that the only people who like songs like this only like them because they think it makes them cool and different and quirky. Of all the albums I’ve listened to so far in this project this might be the most unbearable, so there’s that. Bubblegum was better, but too little too late. Nothing could have saved this.

Now this is more my type of music. Still not 100% my taste, but I did really enjoy this one. All of the songs were distinct from each other while not being incohesive and the melodies were really catchy. I think this might be my favorite album from this project so far. I think that if I listen to this several more times, I might even add all of these songs to my playlist.

I’m kind of eating my words from earlier about singer songwriters. I enjoyed this album. Well, I guess I should say I really enjoyed I feel the earth move. It’s still stuck in my head after the first listen and after listening to all the other songs. The rest of the album was not bad either, but a bit too bland for me on first listen. I really like the message of beautiful: “You’ve got to get up every morning with a smile on your face and show the world all the love in your heart, then people gonna treat you better, you’re gonna find, yes you will, that you’re beautiful as you feel.” A bit cheesy, but I like it. But again with the split audio thing in Smackwater Jack I can’t even explain how much I hate that.

Nighthawks At The Diner
Tom Waits
I like the music, and I actually don’t mind the spoken word this time, but I would never add these types of songs to my playlist because to me they’re not really songs I guess. It kind of reminds me of the highwayman song from over the garden wall if the highwayman didn’t sing. Because there weren’t really any melodies for the lyrics or refrains, these tracks all sounded the same to me, like just one big continuation or one big recording, which I normally don’t mind if it’s an album with actual songs. I like the story telling and I do like them, but just not as songs if that makes sense. So they get a higher rating than most because I like it. It sounds like I’m at his performance. I feel like this album would be really good to play on a rainy night in a high rise apartment overlooking the city while having a fancy dinner with your spouse. It sounds very fancy. Okay now there’s more singing. I actually really enjoy this album as a whole. It’s interesting how a lot of the songs have intros. This sounds really artsy to me, like only really sophisticated people would really appreciate it, and I feel like I’m too plain to really appreciate everything here. I do really like the vibe it gives off. I think that’s my favorite part of the album. The songs don’t have much replayability for me individually, but this is kind of taking me away and making me imagine the above situation on a rainy night and I think this would be perfect to play in certain situations, just not all the time. It really reminds me of Over the Garden Wall. I really like the storytelling. Good vibe/atmosphere, but that’s about it.
