Low by David Bowie
Dec 07 2022

Like a post-punk ambient record. Cinematic in a way - like the soundtrack to a Dario Argento softcore. Standouts on first listen are "Breaking Glass", "A New Career in a New Town," "Warszawa", and "Subterraneans".

Odelay by Beck
Dec 08 2022

Sort of like a respectable Kid Rock. Some standout tracks for sure, "Novacane" in particular really rips, and "Devils Haircut" holds up, but the weirdness leads to some meandering for sure.

Heroes by David Bowie
Dec 09 2022

I can't believe I've never listened to this full album before. I think I preferred Low, which despite its enormous variety, felt a little more cohesive and inventive. The front half is a collection of solid pop rock tunes that sees Bowie sending his voices to all corners of his range, while the back half slides in and out of instrumental trances before crashing back into consciousness with the shockingly corny 'Secret Life of Arabia'. There are classics to find here, but as a whole it didn't really work for me.

Elephant by The White Stripes
Dec 10 2022

Surprisingly heavy, this thing just rips.

Transformer by Lou Reed
Jan 17 2024

Very modern sounding in terms of the recording quality itself as well as the disaffected post punk sound. Very cohesive record too - sounds like it could have been put together in the studio in one single session.

Strange and evocative, more a loose collection of tones, voices, and thoughts than an album per se. Enjoyed my time with it but it's hard to say if anything stuck for longer than it took to listen to it.
