I struggle to rate ones like this. In 1986, this was probably a 10/10 album, but it doesn't hold up quite as well today. It's still a great album, it just gets a little stale by the end. I still enjoyed it quite a bit though. 7/10.
My favorite Zappa album (tied with Apostrophe). We even get a Captain Beefheart appearance. 9.5/10
Not into it. Not terrible. Just not my kind of music. 4/10
Loved this. This band has been on my radar for a while now, but I have yet to really give them a listen. Glad I finally did. 8/10
A gem for me. It starts to tire a bit by the end as there isn't a lot of variation, but beautiful harmonies, good production, and great songwriting. I feel like I'm transported directly to 1966 (in the best way). There isn't a bad track on this album. The treatment and subsequent early death of Cass Elliot was a tragedy.
8/10
Meh. The Arctic Monkeys with an orchestra. Didn't do much for me. I like them for a song or two here or there, but I get bored with them so quick. Adding an orchestra wasn't enough to keep me interested. I think I'd like all of these songs more if they were to pop up individually. They did make good use of the orchestra at least. It was integrated well. 6/10
Super fun(k) album. 8.5/10
"I had a rough night, and I just hate the fucking Eagles man." - el Duderino
Despite growing up on a heavy diet of classic rock, I had never actually listened to this album. I guess my dad wasn't much of a fan. I don't remember him ever playing the Eagles. Now I know why. This album sucks.
I can't help but have a soft spot for the classic rock radio hits, but the rest of this album is pretty shit. I really enjoy some countrified rock music, vocal harmonies, and guitar solos. I even love me a lot of soft rock, but holy shit, the songwriting and choices here are horrible.
It isn't outwardly abrasive, so there's that. The production is good. Try and Love Again is a decent enough soft rock song, but the whole run of Wasted Time>Reprise>Victim of Love before it is just embarrassingly bad. The Last Resort ends this album perfectly - on another terrible note. 1 point for production, 1 point for the hits, 1 point for Try and Love Again, and 1 point for the fact that I was able to sit through the whole thing. I listened to this on vinyl, and I posted it for sale on Discogs as soon as it was done.
4/10
Had some fun moments. Got a little stale by the end, and didn't necessarily feel all that coherent as an album. The groove of the first song got my hopes up, but I felt like it never really got back there again. 6/10
Fast and bulbous.
I don't know. It kinda works with my ADD. I get why this is considered to be something you should hear, at least once. It is certainly something to hear, anyway. Pretty hard to digest. The songs were generally short, but definitely all over the map. I definitely don't "get it". Somehow, I still kinda liked it. I need a few more listens before I can really rate it, but we'l say 6/10 for now.
What if the Cure played dance music? I liked this more than I expected. Not everything from the '80s is bad. I don't think anyone would think this was from any other decade, but unlike a lot of '80s music, it still holds up pretty well. 7/10
This shit is my jam. Psychedelicized latin rock with a bit of jazzy flair? Yes please. Hope You're Feeling Better was the only song that wasn't great. 8.5/10
Really enjoyable. Probably not something I'll seek out often, but it puts me in a good place. 7/10
Loved the Killing Moon, but the rest never really got there. I liked the sound of it overall, but the rest of the songs were pretty forgettable. I suspect a few songs might grow on me after some more listens.
