I think the funnest thing about listening to albums from the 60s is trying to figure out how baked they were when they made it. I liked this one, instrumentals are easy listening and the singers got a good voice. Some songs were a Lil boring with meh lyrics. Fav song was Murder Mystery. I can definitely hear some Hendrick influence in Some Kinda Love.
I understand music can often be made for specific occasions and in the case of rock n' roll its most often for dance. This album was more a collection of hit songs than a cohesive album. The stories, lyrics and delivery are sly and enjoyable in each song, but most of the songs share the same cadence and get repetitive in succession. Overall I don't think this album matches my tastes.
The mix of synth and guitar that meshes really good with the rest of the song highlights why I like 80's music so much. This album was very enjoyable, I love that the vocals give plenty of space for the instrumental to breathe and vice versa. Great delivery with the vocals too! If I had to find a dislike some of the lyrics were a bit too vague. This was a very influential album so I can't pinpoint a specific thing this reminds me of, a lot of classic riffs here!
Production sounds great on this, songs are super catchy. Could easily tell Prince worked on this even before his feature. Enjoyed the first half of this album, second half got a lil too out there. In usual pop fashion, the subject of the lyrics become so broad to the point that it starts to sound generic.
Lots of smooth bossa on this and the MCing makes you feel like your in the room. The ryhme scheme and figurative language were my favorite things from this album; delivery is so good its hard not to pay attention to what he's saying. I would say the first half was on the weaker side. I'm sure a lot of influence was taken from this; from the samples to the ryhmes.
I don't think I'm a fan of 12-bar blues. Not much stuck out to me from this album. "Cold Irons Bound" was the one song I really enjoyed. Reminded me a lot of north African desert blues (not sure how I even know that genre).
May be the greatest vocal performance I've ever heard! Not sure what more praise I can give for Ms. Vaughan, her voice is so soothing. As for the accompaniment, I'm a sucker for laid-back jazz.
This album really let's the sound breathe, I like how spacey it is. One gripe I have is the falsetto vocals get exhausting trying to listen in one go, reminds me of U2 in a bad way. Overall feels slow but I imagine this album will grow on me.
Can't say this is the weirdest album I've listened to but its up there. I actually like the voice cracks in the singing but the lyrics are too confusing for me.
This album was meh for me. Clearly very influential, but because of that I feel like I've already heard these songs done with better twists to them.
