Garbage by Garbage
Mar 02 2023

Garbage was one of those bands that I never paid much attention to. I was only ever aware of their singles. The only song I recognised by name before listening to the album was ‘Stupid Girl’. So I honestly didn’t know what to expect. The album is an interesting mix of pop, rock and electronic. Overall it’s a decent debut album, but I did find it somewhat repetitive. I’m sure my opinion of the album will change after a few listens. My stand out tracks were ‘Queer’, ‘A Stroke of Luck’ and ‘Milk’. 3.5 stars

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Mar 03 2023

This was a first time listen for me, so I had no idea what to expect. I was surprised. A politically charged album that’s an interesting mix of jazz, funk and African music. This isn’t my usual cup of tea but definitely an album I’ll listen to again. My favourite song was Mr. Follow Follow.

No Other by Gene Clark
Mar 05 2023

This is another new album for me. Neither I nor my partner knew who Gene Clark was. This is a great country-rock album. I can’t believe it was largely ignored or lambasted by critics on its release and ended up being a commercial failure. Stand out track was Some misunderstanding.

Phrenology by The Roots
Mar 06 2023

At times this album is brilliant and at other times a challenging listen. Some of the songs are far longer than they need to be, but overall it’s a decent hip-hop album. Stand out tracks The Seed (2.0), Quills and Break You Off.

Remain In Light by Talking Heads
Mar 07 2023

I like several of Talking Heads songs, but I’m not a fan of any of their albums as a whole. I think this is down to me not liking David Byrne’s voice. Not a bad album but just not one that I’d see myself coming back to. Standout tracks are ‘Once In A Lifetime’ and ‘Listening Wind’.

Meh! There are so many better albums from the 80s.
