I didn’t know that I knew half the songs on this album. What an 80s trailblazer

Reminded me how much I like bass guitar with good headphones. And how much I don’t like distortion on vocals.

Classic. I know this album pretty well.

More explicit than I can enjoy on a normal day. Maybe I’m getting old. Not all bad though. Lyrics weave a strong narrative which is nice - if you can follow it.

I guess ordinary lounge jazz had to originate somewhere. It’s not bad, it’s just nice music. And “nice” is a damning adjective.

This is one of my favourite albums. There’s a fair bit of filler but the good tracks are great.

I actually really liked it! Just not sure what makes it historic or significant - it’s rap about urban life in NYC. There’s a lot of that out there.

Not my scene, at least not any more

The music is your good old fashioned easy listening funk. Nothing wrong with it. The album is a bit too long as a stand-alone listening experience.

Almost Blue is a great song. Sadly most of the rest of the album wasn’t quite as good, I wonder if Elvis Costello has other recordings that lean more into the blues genre; I’ll check and give those a listen. Side note - I used to live next to the Chandlers where EC bought most of his guitars from

At first I was like, “damn Springsteen made his every track sound like a Meat Loaf song” But then I realised, Meat Loaf made his song sound like every Springsteen track. Fair play to both of them.

Damn, it’s been a while. Interesting choice of SOAD album. I’d have gone with Toxicity but maybe I’m dating myself. Have to give this one 4 on angry teenage nostalgia alone

I hadn’t listened all the way through to this before. It’s now one of my favourite albums.
