I didn’t vibe with it much at all. I can see how some people would like it though. It was produced well and you can tell why they’re a somewhat known group.
Well produced and very catchy. Most of the songs sound the same but it isn’t a very bad things. Songs have replay-ability. Some songs seemed a little sloppier than others and some were repetitive but the overall vibe of the album doesn’t seem to be super proper which is ok, given the era it was produced in.
Every single song sounded the exact same and I very genuinely hated it. Funk is straight ass when it’s displayed like this. After the 2nd song I wanted to smash my face through my kitchen table.
The hits will always hold a genuine special place in music history. But other songs like Pieces of What, will not. The highs were very high(Kids, Electric Feel) and the lows were very low(PoW, FR, basically everything else). It is very progressive and very influential but very disappointing nonetheless.
When I think of the 60’s, I think of the beatles. But if you lived in that time you think of groups like this. Lesser known now but nearly as, it as influential as those big name bands. Listening to this album I went in with bias but was also hesitant. California Dreamin was one of the songs that got me into this music. This album is what keeps me loving this music. The songs may sound similar throughout but each show you exactly what was going through the minds of those growing up back then. The vocal harmony that the 4 members create is amazing and doesn’t let me down at all while listening. Michelle Phillips has one of my favorite voices of all time and you hear it on every song. I could go on and on about how great this album is, but I wont. If you want to listen to the pinnacle of early 60’s hippie/folk music, this is the album.
This album has been a gold standard for the entire rap genre since its inception. That being said the first two songs are known by everyone who can understand the english language, but the rest of the songs in my opinion don’t live up to the standard set by the first two. One thing that stands out with this album is the typical “Ah shit man,” and blaring police sirens and other snippets before the actually music starts, i’ve always been a fan of those for whatever reason. All in all it was a good album, not great but good.
All over the place but what you’d expect from a great early punk album with some high highs and low lows. Distortion was amazing and drums were perfect accents to iffy pops unique vocals.
The first song was super 80s and extremely catchy, and everything up until the last song was ass. I actually like the last song the most due to just the somber vibe and catchy chord progression. Overall very disappointed.
