The Clash by The Clash

Love the energy on the album, but it is very monotonous for how long it runs. I appreciate that the boys would diversify their sound later.

Eliminator by ZZ Top

Completely insipid and atavistic. The soundtrack to white boy summer. Pretty good stuff.

The jam format definitely does the album a disservice. Melodies don't feel fully developed and uninteresting chord progressions will go on for too long. Not a bad vibe, but it needs more than that.

This recording is a good reminder that despite everything that turns me off about Dylan artistically, there is a brilliant lyricist and storyteller in him, and I always appreciate the increasingly rare times he would tap into that energy. The Hawks' performance is definitely an enormous shift in energy but it's quality stuff. Extra admirable in the face of all the crap the audience gives them for the mere idea. In hindsight it feels like this tour was a realization for Dylan that nobody ever really gave a damn what he wrote; it was all in the aesthetics. Hard to blame him for not caring afterward after such a rough reception.

Pretty cozy vibes. I can see why this band got ripped off for like eight years; their sound is super inoffensive and sleep-inducing.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths

I would have ate this the fuck up had I heard it in my teens. It's exactly the kind of self-loathing that fueled me at the time, and it can still settle about me like a warm blanket. Certainly doesn't hurt that the production and performances are slick as hell.

I already knew I liked this album. Excellent songwriting and strongly emotional performances all the way down the tracklist. I'm not always in a Coldplay mood but when I am, it's usually this record I put on.

Could do without the queerphobia but otherwise this shit still goes hard.
