heard before: nope The jazz influences on this album are absolutely feral. I've not heard DAMN in it's entirety, but if it's as good as this album, Kendrick earned that Pulitzer for sure. The musical composition of the rap over the jazz highlights the longevity and influence of black artists, and celebrates these sounds in a way that creates an explosion of sound and culture. The experimental sound reminds me a lot of Tyler the Creator, and I really can't believe I avoided this album for so long. 10/10 recommend, yall should go back and listen for sure. Fave songs: u, For Free? Honorable mention: Alright
I hadn't heard of this band or album before, but Angus had! If LCD Soundsystem and Radiohead had a bad Brooklyn warehouse band baby, this album would be the result. Easy listening, but nothing that exceptionally stuck out for me - it was the perfect album to listen to while writing my syllabi for the fall (slow, long and boring😂)! I also didn't realise I was listening to the deluxe edition and was confused as to why this album was 3 hours long lol Fave song: War on War Honorable mention: honestly none, War on War was the only one that made me look up and check the name of the song lol
heard before: nope! This album is weirdly comforting to me, even though I don't think I've ever heard it. Waits really understands his instrument and has an uncanny ability to draw the listener in. His way of telling his stories is captivating - Bruce Springsteen wants what Tom Waits has. Putnam County has the beginnings of Tom Traubert's Blues which made me weirdly emotional? Maybe it's the nostalgia of hearing my dad play Tom Waits in the background of my childhood, but I greatly enjoyed sitting down and listening to this all the way through. Fave songs: Better off Without a Wife, Eggs and Sausage Honorable mention: not a song, but whoever played the upright bass on this album was going OFF
Heard before: no This album is reinforcing my 90s phase I’m currently ripping through. Gave me some Nirvana vibes, and I really liked the sound they establish in this album. Fave song: Geek USA honorable mention: Today
heard before: oh yeah The only people who like this album more than me are the drunk geezers I used to play this album for in the pub. Jarvis Cocker has one of the silliest names in music, and Pulp is one of the most slept-on band names imho. Musically, there's nothing really revolutionary happening in this album, but you can't deny that it's filled with bangers from top to bottom. I do sometimes get a bit bored after the Common People - Live Bed Show run, but this time around I've decided that it's just because those four songs are so good, I want to go back and listen to them again. All around solid album. fave song: I Spy honorable mention: Disco 2000, F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E
