1001 Albums Summary

overall, i liked some of the songs, but most of them were not my favorites. some songs in the album felt way too loud, chaotic, and overwhelming, probably because i just don’t like hard rock. black star and sulk were not bad though. but i did really like the more acoustic vibe of high and dry, fake plastic trees, and street spirit (fade out). those reminded me of coldplay.

i did like the background guitar and the folksy feel of the music, but i couldn’t really enjoy the album because i just didn’t like his voice. it felt like he was talking instead of singing, and his voice was too scratchy and country sounding for me. also, the harmonica was cool at first but then it just became kind of annoying. i did like the song “a hard rain’s a-gonna fall” though.

i love how this album includes soft and mellow songs, more upbeat tunes, and songs somewhere in between, while still maintaining a very cohesive sound. it feels very comforting and carefree. their harmonies and guitar really remind me of simon and garfunkel. i’m only giving it 4 stars because i liked most of the songs, but a few of them i didn’t like as much. even though i really enjoyed listening to the songs, none of them were particularly memorable or catchy.

i do like some of the velvet underground’s other songs, but the only songs that really stood out to me on this album were “pale blue eyes” and “after hours” (which i had heard before). “candy says”, “jesus”, and “that’s the story of my life” weren’t bad either. i liked the calming, simple vibes of those songs. overall, i only really liked half of the songs in the album.

not the type of music i usually listen to, but i liked it more than i was expecting! R.E.M definitely has a very unique and distinct sound. i liked the voice/singing at first but after a while it did start to hurt my ears a bit. overall, i thought most of the songs were pretty good. my favorite was “stand”.

it was ok, i only really liked two songs - “great expectations” and “beth”. the rest weren’t bad but they weren’t my favorite either.
