Liked the big band feel with all the different instruments used. "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" favorite track.
Never heard the opening track "Supervixen" before - really enjoyed it. I love the sudden stops/silences in the rhythm. Enjoyed the grimy sound/vibe of the entire album.
Never heard of this group - picture of one of the guys looks like Aaron Rodgers in an Orioles jacket. Great start. First track "Genesis" has me grooving. Daft Punk vibes. One of those albums that doesn't have endings to tracks, they just flow to the next one. It works with this type of music. I have faint memories of the most popular track, "D.A.N.C.E," but surprised I've never heard of this. "Phantom" is FUNKY. So is "The Party." Definitely heard that chorus sampled before.
Some resistance popped up as soon as I read "Talking Heads." I'm going to give this album an unbiased listen...here we go! Already grooving on the opening track, "Uh-Oh, Loves Comes to Town." The lead singer's voice isn't my favorite but let's see if it grows on me. Despite not liking the voice, these tracks are funky and have my body grooving. But grooving wasn't enough - I find the lead singer's voice very annoying, and I'm not a fan of the straightforward lyrics.
Another artist that I have never heard if. Album is from 2008, the year I graduated high school, so I was really only listening to radio then. Put 3 tracks from this album on my "1,001 Album Generator Favorite Tracks" playlist. Big time Coldplay, The Squeeze, and even The Black Keys vibes. Really dig this band and album.
I love A Tribe Called Quest. A few of the tracks from this album are on heavy rotation in my routine Spotify listening - Buggin Out, Check the Rhime, Scenario. Q-Tip is so smooth on the mic.
Strange one here. 4 track album, including one at 13 minutes and one at 15 minutes. Reminds me of the "This is What it Sounds Like" book that I'm reading that talks about authenticity. This one is certainly authentic because it's got some really weird, "out there" components. Not really my style.
42 song album, good god! Bluegrass pickin' vibes from first track. "Keep on the Sunny Side" is solid.
Couple of tracks on here that I know and enjoy. But most of the songs definitely sound the same. Solid album.
Average, Rolling Stones sound
Not bad, Beach Boys type vibes. Time of the Season is a great track. But sound gets old after a while.
Very folky, a genre that I never really listened to much. It's catchy but kind of boring.
Strange, lead singer's voice reminds me of Lou Reed.
Never heard much of Peter Gabriel, not bad, pretty cool tracks, dig his voice and delivery
Portishead? Who...?? Spotify calls it part of the "trip hop" genre. Pretty trippy indeed. Kind of cool though. "Small" has been added to the 1,001 album favorites playlist. Funky groove.
First album by Elvis. Excited for this one! 12 tracks, no track over 3 minutes! A lot of these bad boys have been sampled - Tutti Frutti, I Got a Woman Blue Suede Shoes is a banger. Tutti Frutti as well.
I always hear about Hendrix being a legendary guitar player, but admittedly I haven't explored much of his catalog. Crosstown Traffic sampled on 98Rock for their traffic reports. Good song. Don't like the two tracks that are 13+ minutes. Voodoo Child is solid.
Not bad, pretty chill/groovy
Never heard of Prefab Sprout...British pop band Pretty good sound, fun songs. Added Faron Young to favorites playlist
Banger. every single track. what a song writer.
