Very calming and peaceful album. Some songs give me a Steely Dan vibe, mixed with Jimmy Buffett (may he rest in paradise). Overall, a fan! I've seen this album before at the record store and paid no attention to it. It will definitely be something I add to my collection next time I come across it.
Great work vibe album! Have been enjoying it all day - 3:41 PM, 6 Sept. 2023
From the beginning of Movin' on Up, I got almost a kind of Rolling Stones vibe (especially Mick Jagger from their lead singer).
Third song and definitely not a fan of the techno, 80s/90s dance type style of music we've got going on here. Piano is p sick though.
Wtf is inner flight, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be in a Disney movie.
I do like the song with Terry Farley, good vibes all around. I think they should have recorded more songs with lyrics and music instead of just techno.
Halfway through Damaged and I am already liking the B-Side. This album has been a rollercoaster. Beautiful vocals and guitar rips. Enter confusion.
This album was shockingly average. Definitely not anywhere close to the impact that listening to Manassas through for the first time, but I guess that is not too surprising considering this was his debut record. It's cool that his opening song is Love the One You're With, which is a classic. I love that feeling of finally knowing who wrote that one song you know that you haven't heard in forever and how its connected to them.
Getting Mamas and The Papas vibes with the vocals and believe it or not some Beatles vibes from the percussion. Interesting listen to start for sure.
Bat Macumba is terrible. First song on the album so far that I really didn't like. The instruments are literally painful.
Not a huge fan on the first listen, but I would definitely be willing to give it another lesson. 2 stars.
I liked it! Didn't really have anything outlandish that made me dislike it or remember it. Average. Should probably listen to it again, but for now, 3 stars.
I was a big fan of this album. I've always known about U2, but I've never really given them a true listen. This album as fantastic, with multiple songs/tunes that I recognized. I also love learning about bands that are still so modern that have been making music for close to 50 years. History like that is incredible. I remember when they released one of their albums for free for everyone on iTunes. That was a great marketing scheme. Big fan, and I'm glad this popped up on my generation. 4 stars!
Thought this was a very interesting listen. Definitely plan to listen to more of Rufus Wainwright and learn more about his background/upbringing. Seems like an interesting fellow, a tad bit crazy? 3 stars.
Big fan of this album. Marvin Gaye is a classic. Never get tired of his voice, lyrics, or music. 4 stars.
Oh boy I am excited for this one.
Just started listening to the first song. Already love it. Great vibes!
I'm liking their sound already. Modern, but not too overproduced I think? Just multi-instrumental talent and good songwriting. It looks like BEACH HOUSE is a duo with live drums contracted out to other drummers.
I really liked this album! I liked the sound. Definitely going to be listening to more Beach House in the future. I really like their vibe. Also, funny note but Kat apparently listens to them/has been a big fan. And The Weeknd uses samples of their music in some of his songs.
Very cute album, I love Loretta's voice and lyrics. Would definitely listen to more of her. Forgot to take notes unfortunately.
Great album. Springsteen really doesn't miss, in over 50 years of professional music. Great listen!
Might be biased because I already like Springsteen, but solid album. Would listen again, 4 stars.
Love this album. Obviously, it's not as coveted as Nevermind but still contains classics in Heart-Shaped Box, Dumb, Pennyroyal Tea and All Apologies. I am glad that this gave me a reason to listen to it through again, because it really is a great album. A true shame that Nirvana didn't see old age.
What a fantastic album. Peter Gabriel really is an incredible artist and it seems like he never fails to miss on an album. Listening through again, three of the first four songs are great (Intruder, No Self Control, and I Don't Remember).
Also honorary mention, but this album sets up a great queue from Spotify at the end of it. Keep in mind when I need to mindlessly listen to classic rock during the work day. 5 stars I presume.
Really liked this album! Definitely already knew some of the hits, but even the unpopular songs were fire.
This album is groovy. I'm glad this project is forcing me to listen to music from artists that I know and like but probably wouldn't have listened to otherwise.
Castles Made of Sand guitar sounds eerily like Jimi Hendrix and I love it!! These guys are so talented. John Frusciante's extensive solo career is an interesting road I'd like to go down.
I also finally made the connection that Chad Smith was in RHCP after seeing a video of him recently where he came up with a drum solo for a song he had never heard before. Pretty cool stuff. It's so interesting to me how people like that can find each other so young (high school, like U2), and how RHCP has beena round for 40+ years and just keep kicking.
5 stars!
Actually really liked this! I love their sound.
This is a fantastic easy listening album. I have really enjoyed it today working at the office. Billy Bragg reminds me a bit of Tom Petty, mixed with George Harrison, which results in giving a type of Travelling Wilbury's vibe.
Short album, Bowie's songs don't always do it for me.
