I know this album. Though I prefer a New Day at Midnight mostly, especially Dead in the Water
At times ramshackle. Some charming moments , and some tantalising brief spicy chord changes in Diana.
War in Peace more production value and G Harrison Clapton outro. Then it goes a bit Dylan.
Quite liked the country blues of Books of Moses.
Have to admire the honesty and unadorned presentation . One for headphones.
The latter quarter sounds like my "bass twiddles" C90 from the late 80s. Great for hearing exactly what a period bass guitar sounds like solo. Some ok grooves that could have been developed from these demos
Quality songs and production. The orchestral accompaniments raise its game higher. Premium 60s psychedelia.
Favourites initially Old Man and You set the scene ends the album on a high.
Highly curated with great songs. Queer is a stomper and Milk adds some atmosphere. Some pioneering 90s sounds. 90s big beat rock pop with great vocals especially Stupid Girl
Some timeless songs and sounds with an emotional appeal . Was less keen on the pure country tracks.
Not my thing stylistically. Appreciate the message though
No doubt influential and you can hear where Birtiish punk, new wave and 00"s revivalists pulled from . Sounds dated now though.
By the time you get to Hate and War you realise this is not just A N Other one dimensional punk band. What's My Name is a bit Damned like but most sounds original. Lots of exhilarating major key tunes, they always could turn out a timeless melody. Some Jam-like moments. And then Police and Thieves starts to introduce a reggae theme. Pleasant to hear this again after a few decades. The lyrics also still stand the test of time
Prefer the instrumentals clever progressions in Aurora, Mindless Idiot where I think they are at their best. Sonically pleasing and inventive mostly, with some very loose interludes. Not especially keen on the vocals, but lyrically interesting. Forerunners of Nirvana for sure in New Gods and Lake of Fire , and thrashy Teenager
I like Curtis a lot. Billy Jack is classic , I think this album really gets going on the last 2 tracks Hard Times and Love to the People . His voice can be a bit monotonous always in falsetto , but the lyrics and musicianship always keep the bar high
One of those missing link albums! Nice sparse very tight new wave instrumentation and vocal delivery .
Demands attention, you can't really read a book whilst listening. Razor sharp angular rhythm guitar stabs , very clever
Liked Mama Roux and Jump Steady. Lots of weird psychedelic stuff. Some started well and became unlistenable
. Most songs have Yaya in lyrics. Dig the Latin grooves these cats laid down man. Walk on Gilded splinters a classic
