1001 Albums Summary

This is a really awesome album. I love the blend of R&B and rock with some of the James Brown covers included. I can see how The Who felt this was a bit haphazardly thrown together because the album lacks some cohesion, but this didn’t take away from my listening experience at all. Reminds me a lot of when I discovered this album (and especially the song My Generation) in either late middle or early high school.

Deserves 4 stars for Son of A Preacher Man alone. Why hadn't I ever heard Windmills before??!?!?

Not my style necessarily. I ended up zoning out in the middle and had to restart the album. However, his voice is wonderful & haunting and I enjoyed the title song.

Ugh this one is good

Nigel Godrich can produce that's for sure. I think I prefer Beck's less folksy stuff. This gets a bit too mopey for me but at the same time doesn't move me emotionally. The tempo seemed to stay the same for a lot of this album + makes me feel like I was just plodding along. I'm a bit of a sucker for a pedal steel guitar in a not-quite 100% conventional country song setting, so I really enjoyed it's consistent presence throughout. Favs: Paper Tiger, Lonesome Tears, Round The Bend (I really love the strings on these); Little One (grungey); Side Of The Road (bluesy)

I wish this wasn't a compilation album! Definitely a good start showcasing some of Fats Domino's hits. Makes me curious – I'll be looking into him more. Fav tracks: Blue Monday; Goin Home (Bonus Track)
