Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme by Simon & Garfunkel
Oct 06 2023

I already have listened to much of simon and garfunkel. The whole album is very delicate, beautiful and dreamlike, with divine harmonies in the vocals. My tracks i love in include scarborough fair ( just divine), homeward bound (amazing lyrics and driving rhythmn), flowers never bend (great variation between more intense thickly layered moments and delicate ones). My favourite track from this album is poems on the underground; both the introduction and the outro are hauntingly beautiful, and the lyrics of the songs are so poetic it is divine. The intro of for Emily wherever I may find her, to me, is very reminiscient of sound of silence. However, a simple desultory philippic is quite odd, and doesn't seem to fith with the feel of the rest of the album, and the harmonica is awful. Strangely, I think that the juxdeposition in the mix of silent night and the 7o'clock news is extremly striking. I believe this song is trying to show the disregard society shows towards growing issues, perhaps because then simply can't handle the though of all these problems. So, people just sit cosily at home, trying to forget.

Smash by The Offspring
Oct 09 2023

Classic american punk rock. Few stand out tracks, other than come out and play (awesome twangy guitar, energetic hey-ey s and it effectly uses very breif moments where there is not sound). Genocide felt very repetitive and the drums were offputting, not fitting with the guitar. The vocals in self esteem were not very tuneful at the beginning but better towards the midde of the song. I cant decide whether what happened to you doesnt fit or just mixes it up. In isolation the song is alright. I love the signing on and off; it makes the listener feel much more connected to the band.

Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash
Oct 10 2023

Firstly, I love Crosby, Stills and Nash. But this album is not my favourite. the forst five songs are much more ... funky than some of thier other songs and frankly a bit dull. Some of my favourite tracks include wooden ships (I love how the lyrics move between different people), lady of the island (disorientating in a good way), helplessly hoping (no explanation necessary - just beautiful), long time gone (a song I could groove to in a dimly lit basement, and I like the sliding backing), and everybody's talking (I love the lines were th pitch goes much deeper) . However, song with no words I find extremely offputting. Why can't there just be words?

Electric Warrior by T. Rex

The entire albums feels as though it as sung at 3am in all it's glory. I feel as thogh i could listen to this album lying in the dark doing nothing, and my mind would never drift. Overall a very solid melow rock album

Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
Oct 12 2023

I like how the fast paces backing contrasts the slower but no less rythmic vocals. Their music compels you to be swinging back and forth. It feels as though it most definitelt should not be listened to alone, sitting at a desk (as I am doing now - sorry). Al Hassidi Tereia and Nick both have a lot of variation and I particularly enjoy the harmonies in the slower vocal parts of these songs. The only other thing perhaps worth noting is that, since they are singing in another language, I have no idea what the lyrics mean.

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
Oct 13 2023

This album is poignant and tender, while powerfully discussing societal issues. He voice throughout is full of emotion and expression. My favourite tracks include talkin' bout a revolution, fast car, and for my lover. However, by far my favourite of all is behind the wall: there is no backing which compels the listener to focus singularly on her message, it is raw, emotional and filled with pain and restrained anger.

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem
Oct 16 2023

An hour is too long for an album, come on. Although rap is not my thing at all, it wasn’t terrible. I liked how it was upbeat but quite relaxed. The tracks I liked the most were rock bottom and my fault. To me my name is was extremely repetitive and annoying. Overall the msssage of don’t do drugs kids seemed a bit trite and not very flushed out.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers

I didn’t really like jazz before. I don’t like jazz having listened to half of this album (I’m sorry but I could get through it all). That is not to say this is a terrible album, just that I don’t like it.
