Strong hippy vibes. This album feels like the quintessential British invasion-hippie movement album.
It's hard to discern the impact and influence of this album because there is so much sonic crossover with the beetles here.
Final track mega iconic.
It's just classic Elton John. It's really good music, but I guess in the year 2023 it's a bit predictable.
Tiny Dancer, of course, is an all-time banger.
This album is perhaps one of the best RnB/soul albums of all time. It certainly is one of the best of the 2000s. Pitchfork giving this album a 6.4 is one of their most egregious reviews of all time.
It is a modern sounding album, with tons of vintage flair. The album pulls it's sound most strongly from 60s and 70s Motown.
The lyrics are shockingly vulnerable and personal. The album starts off with, "they tried to make me go to rehab" lol. It is common for albums of this genre to talk about love and heartbreak, but it was rare at the time to be so candid about drug use and personal failures. This album changed the game on that front.
Amy's vocal performance is, of course, incredible. I don't think Adele would exist without Amy having first recorded this album.
RIP to a GOAT
"If I could find a White man who had the Negro sound, I could make a million dollars," said Sun's Sam Phillips before "discovering" Elvis.
While I understand the importance of this record for popularizing rock and roll, you should listen to the black artists from which Elvis stole. They did it better.
Go listen to Chuck Berry, Big Momma Thornton, Otis Blackwell, Ray Charles, Lloyd Price, Fats Domino, Rosetta Tharpe, Muddy Waters, and BB King.
Mid 2000s indie supergroup that frankly only aged okay. This album was certainly a big deal when it came out but I don't think is actually that good. The sum is not greater than it's parts. This album was removed from 1001 for a reason (why is it still on this website???)
Also Alex Turner Vocals 👎
Insanely corny but slaps so hard I don't give a fuck.
It's no Ziggy Stardust, but I love Bowie and it's great hearing him try his hand at a soul sound. It's soul, but it's been twisted a bit by Bowie. Very fun.
So many iconic samples. Lots of flavor. Probably one of the first breakthrough computer made albums which thoroughly explored the unique sounds which can only be achieved by producing with a computer.
So many great beats and moods, with surprising creative twists.
This is like proto-Pixies and proto-Pavement, two of my favorite bands ever. This isn't as fleshed out as the later 90s indie rock, but I love to hear this earlier take on the sound
Ethereal 90s indie rock 👍.
Almost a shoegaze kind of sound, but with less distortion. I do think later bands did this better, like Beach house or MBV. Still a very good album and I love the sound.
Some of the later tracks really show the 80s pop influence. Pulling in some of the cornier sonic motifs of that genre.
Overall really fun record.
Better than I thought it would be. Nice Americana flavors.
This man is a sexual predator though.
Saucy af. Name a more chilled out vibe. You can't.
This is the most psychedelic folk guitar I've ever heard. The playing on this album is fantastic. And the overall mood and sound of the album is unlike anything I've heard before.
I think the blues sounds towards the end of the album are slightly weaker.
The start of a legendary band, who I don't generally like a whole lot.
I hadn't heard this album, but it's cool because of it's focus on prog rock more than pop. It's a pretty interesting jazz and prog rock album.
Not as good as 21 but still an absolute slapper
I love a lot of queen songs, but I always felt their albums were a bit weak.
