Track 12 - so true to their word
Guessing this was an influential album that introduced a new American sound? Nothing too special about this for me, might even be 1.5 stars
Hm… big time whining. Nothing was a star for me. Wish he wasn’t speaking because I love that pondering, traveling, endless guitar sound and beat.
Couldn't get into the flow. The Seed 2.0 put me off. Like the beats in a lot of the songs - those are getting stuck in my head.
Lol, why are track 2 and 3 kinda Shera-coded?? She likes French cuisine and he's got a fat wallet?! Track 6 too? Never begs, and knows how to choose men?
Thug Seinfeld
Fun, unserious stuff
Possible 2.5. Mostly felt bored/indifferent. The “hits” are lackluster and not sure why they stood out to begin with to reach hit status.
Jump Into the Fire might be fun on a roadtrip, but there wasn’t much for me here in this album. The only song I recognized was Coconut and I found the full-length version very annoying/irritating rather than fun. Forget the bellyache, it makes me feel delirious and weak with fever.
Gotta Get Up is not available for me to listen to on Spotify as of Oct. 2023, but I have a feeling I’m not personally missing anything.
Wow, got into this even less than Phrenology. Again, the flow is a major issue with me, but in this case it feels very disjointed within individual songs (outside of Teen Age Riot) and across the album. Nothing spoke to me. Glad to be experiencing music outside of what I generally like, though.
Indifferent with points taken off for Smack My Bitch Up. Crab was cool tho
Really enjoyed this one! I’ve been getting a lot of albums I consider to be stinkers, so this was a treat!
Not my preferred type of music, but I’m sensing a really clear perspective or sensibility that she might have had while writing this. Nothing is grating, it all feels very cohesive, and each song has an impact on me (again, even though I’m not a huge fan of this music genre/style).
I’m realizing I’m a sucker for mopey British men. This felt like all the things I like a lot about early Coldplay, and Alt-J rolled into one excellent predecessor.
Bunch of frantic racket to me
Close to being something I’d be crazy over, but just fall a little short. I’m not getting enough of something be it catchiness, a vibe, a state of mind, purpose, sound. Something just falls a little short, or maybe a few things combined
Two classic songs that I’ve loved since I was a kid clicking through my parents’ iTunes library. There were other songs that I liked, but that did not have the same trance quality and upbeat organ(?). But overall liked the feel that I got from listening and do enjoy this genre
Couldn’t finish, not into it
Oldies bar music 🤷🏻♀️ sorry
Reminded of Rankin/Bass films and Orpheus from Hades on some songs. I really love when he goes to higher, slightly strained notes. Feels like a very emotional album altogether, and I liked it a lot.
