1001 Albums Summary

"Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine" was a solid intro song "Mr. Brightside", "Smile Like You Mean It", "Somebody Told Me" and "All These Things That I've Done" are all songs I already know and will always be fab to me. All 4 are fantastic songs and have been songs that have played in my mind throughout my life, which cements how good they really are "Andy, You're A Star" was really... melodic? I think I like it a lot. "On Top" had an unusual beat. I couldn't decide how I felt about it. I dunno, felt like it could've gone a bit harder? maybe. "Change Your Mind" is probably one of my favourites on the album "Believe Me Natalie" wasn't my favourite at first but the instrumentals really brought it up a notch for me "Midnight Show" was also one of my favourites - feel like it could have easily been the album closer. "Everything Will Be Alright", I think, is my least favourite on the album. It doesn't feel like it really fits on the album at all. It feels out of place and of an entirely different genre. "Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll" - this song feels it could have been an excellent 1-2 punch closer with "Midnight Show". I think removing "Everything Will Be Alright" would've made this closer ace.

First time listening to anything Dire Straits and man, what an intro song. "Down To The Waterline" was an awesome first track and had me hooked quickly "Water Of Love" was much more chilled out and felt very western. This is the kind of track that should be used in the soundtrack of your life. Great song "Setting Me Up" was much more classic rock, I feel, and I'm here for it. The instrumentals stole the show and I wouldn't have it any other way. "Six Blade Knife" the guitar work in this song is beautiful. The simple bassline and drumbeat with some detailed guitar work over the top without overdoing it is a fine line to walk, but it's done excellently here. Again, soundtrack to life levels of good. "Southbound Again" had a funk to it and I love that. The blues feeling it provides is comforting and delightful. "Sultans Of Swing" what is there to say, really? It's easy to see why this song has amassed over a billion streams. Instrumentals on this are fantastic and work excellently together, the vocals are enjoyable, everything just works. The bass really ties this whole song together. Hard not to have this as a favourite of the album. And god damn the guitars in the outro. "In The Gallery" didn't do much for me vocally, but as always the instrumental element is what brought this all together for me. "Wild West End" the vocals did a lot more for me on this song. Unsure how I felt about this song otherwise, to be honest. I think it fell somewhere in the middle of the road overall "Lions" was probably my least favourite song. Not bad, but just fine. Sad way to end the album, unfortunately. The final two songs just did nothing for me.

Honestly, I don't like running up that hill. I preferred most of the rest of the album over it. I didn't like it years before, I didn't like it when it got overplayed from stranger things, I don't like it now. Not my thing.

Decent album, a little bit samey towards end though which is my only criticism.
