I don't listen to a lot of jazz, but when I feel like it this is my favorite album. The interplay between the different instruments is always interesting and the music puts me in a very mellow mood.
Very nostalgic album for an old guy like me. My older brother had this album when I was a kid. I really liked the clean, rich, full sound for such an old album. Marty has a great voice and told a story well.
This album was kind of meh. Pros - they were ambitious and not too formulaic in the songs they chose to record. There were some good songs. Cons - unfortunately, there were more misses than hits for my taste.
I’m struggling with Aretha’s album. I was prepared to give it a 5 without needing to listen, but the production really bothered me. They could have done a much better job of showcasing her wonderful voice and not just her vocal extremes. And like a lot of stuff from that era, it’s way overproduced. You don’t need strings or horns to fill every empty space! Let her voice shine. She is the queen, after all.
Just not my type of music plus I don’t like his voice.
Solid album. Fun and kind of funky at times.
Nothing really caught my interest on this album. You can kind of set a mood with his music, but that’s about it for me.
Great album. Love the mix of country, bluegrass, folk and rock.
It’s funny how so many of the albums on this list evoke a specific time. This is a great example of that.
I hadn’t heard of this band. They sound like a really tight local band that holds the Saturday night residency at the coolest bar in town.
Almost as good as Brown Sabbath!
Not really my thing
There were some good parts where her voice sounded really in sync with the music, but overall I just didn’t like the album
Beautiful voice. There were a few songs where I didn't like the style, but overall a very good album.
What a groove! Have to admit I didn’t know who Jimmy Smith was even though I’ve heard Chicken Shack 1000 times. I think Messy Bessie was my favorite cut.
Odd that one of the best Christmas albums there is would be produced by a convicted murderer.
