Fulfillingness' First Finale by Stevie Wonder
Dec 02 2023

A true classic. Stevie was really hitting his groove on this album. Smile Please sets the mood. Relaxed chic sounds make me close my eyes and drift away. Heaven Is Ten Zillion Years Away has a beautiful bounce forcing my head to bob and weave... Boogie On Reggae Woman propulsion...moving me forward. The slinkiness of Creepin'. You Haven't Done Nothing. Features the Jackson 5 singing background vocals. They sound like great backup singers, but not adding anything any other backup singers couldn't match or do better. Great sing! It Ain't No Use...smooth and soaring! They Won't Go When I Go...covered later by George Michael...but nobody does Stevie Wonder like Stevie Wonder! :-) Not my favorite Stevie Wonder, but an excellent listen.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Dec 06 2023

What an interesting album. Not something I would’ve ever listened to before. Such a moody album. A lot of it is very somber and low-key but then there are some crazy jams with electronic equipment. I would definitely listen to it again and also recommend it to someone else. Definitely not something I would listen to a lot but once in a while, maybe.

Superunknown by Soundgarden
Dec 07 2023

I'm a couple of songs in and this is definitely a little too dark for me. I like older Heavy Metal, but this newer stuff doesn't do it for me. My wife ha told me on several occasions that she really liked the lead singer, Chris Cornell (RIP), so I'll listen to the whole album, but it's not my favorite. I guess that's why we are all listening to these albums...to hear "new" music that we wouldn't normally listen to.

Made In Japan by Deep Purple
Dec 09 2023

One of my favorites growing up! Strange Kind Of Woman, Space Truckin', Highway Star...what great songs/jams. The Japanese crowd is so respectful, very unlike here in America. Jpn Lord's organ and Ritchie Blackmore's guitar...the 2 Ian's...Ian Paice and Ian Gillian...the greatest Deep Purple lineup of all.

Eliminator by ZZ Top
Dec 12 2023

So many classics. Terrible lyrics, but super rock n roll.

Dookie by Green Day
Dec 28 2023

Like many bands (Blues Traveller?) all of the songs sound the same...certainly like they were written/recorded on the same day. In both cases, the music is hard-rocking, and while it doesn't turn me into a Green Day fan, I can totally give 2 thumbs up if this is your type of music. Hard-driving garage rock with good punchy lyrics that you keep moving forward. Definitely not "mellow out" music for sure...

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Feb 07 2024

Not nearly as depressing as I thought it would be. The music was pleasant enough, but I didn't really check out the lyrics....kinda just had it on in the background. I doubt I will listen to it again...but you never know.

Another Green World by Brian Eno
Feb 13 2024

Interesting music. I see how much Eno influenced David Byrne/Talkingheads. Lots of instrumental...kinda "weird", but unlike most any other music you can listen to. Not sure how often I will return to it, but certainly worth a listen.

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Feb 16 2024

Wow. Pretty depressing. Might be just right if you are really big into singer/songwriter, but I was not into it.
