It was fine. I felt like all of the songs had the same tone and it got monotonous after a while.
They are trying so hard to make their point heard, and it gets a bit tired being hit over the head with it on every track. The chorus of Shangri-La is the best on the album so far Did you know this is a protest album? The Kinks would like to remind you once again that this is a protest album.
It was fine. Too involved for a work listen, and I'm sure the concept was much deeper than I gleaned, but it didn't blow me away. Good instrumentation for much of the album though.
What if we just put a bunch of soundboard buttons onto an album and sang quietly in the background? Stereolab answers this question with disappointing certainty. Give me something I can sink my teeth into.
