1001 Albums Summary

Despite this album having one of my most favorite songs of all time, Perfect Day, and also having a couple of other bangers (Vicious, Walk On the Wild Side and Satellite of Love), I currently do not possess the adequate amounts of opioids to truly appreciate this album. Yes, I understand that this album is perfect for many on just about every level, and I recognize its incredible production and just about how much talent was involved, but some of the songs just didn't click for me. Maybe it'll grow on me. Giving it a 3/5.

A classic and timeless album. First time hearing it and I absolutely love it. Every song except for the first is genuinely fantastic and super fun to listen to, as all good funk/soul should be. Higher points for me across the album were: Living For The City, Higher Ground (horrific), All In Love Is Fair (incredible vocals) and Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing. The album flows very well from song to song, felt like a breeze to listen through without any feeling of fatigue. All In Love Is Fair is a great "breather" section. Only song I was a bit unimpressed by was the opener, Too High, in my opinion it lacked the same groove as all the other songs on the album. All in all, incredible album. Would rate it 9/10, not a 10 just because of the first song.

As I understand it, this album was very influential during the disco era, and it is a great record indeed. Very easy to listen through, incredible instrumentation, though I think it lacks a bit of substance. Some of the songs are longer than they need to be. The whole album is just 7 tracks. Good Times is an incredible opener... but are its 8 minutes of total runtime justified? I mean, yes, It's very fun to listen to, very groovy and flows great, but there just isn't a whole lot of development musically throughout the song. Same thing happens with A Warm Summer Night and My Feet Keep Dancing. They're great songs, but their length isn't fully justified. Going on to Side B, I feel like it's a lot better balanced. My Forbidden Lover continues the well-established groove and funkiness, it's shorter than the songs before it and it doesn't drag as much. The next song, Can't Stand to Love you is alright, bridges the gap between My Forbidden Lover and Will You Cry, speaking of which, slows down the pace and serves as a fantastic resting point in the album, doesn't drag at all, has great vocals, great instrumentation and a very nice buildup going into the second half. The album's closer, What About Me combines the groove of Side A and the slower pace of Will You Cry. It's a good closer, it isn't as interesting as some of the album's other songs but stands well enough on it's own. Very fine album. Fun to listen through, and even if some of its songs are a bit too long, the album itself doesn't drag as much and generally sounds incredible. Flows from one song to the other nicely. It's an 8/10 for me.
