1001 Albums Summary

"Elephant" was not at all what I expected. I guess I was thinking most of the songs were going to be like "Seven Nation Army," which was indicative of early 2000s rock. But I was pleasantly surprised that there's a bit more eclecticity to the music. I love the bluesiness of "Ball and Biscuit" and the lyrics for most the songs were intriguing and worthy of a few more listens.

Overall, I liked it. Nothing was really jumping out at me about it, but I enjoyed listening to the whole thing. I did like the second track "In A Silent Way" better than the first.

Dig the beats, don't dig the foul language or a lot of the subject matter. Understand it's part of the art but it's tough to listen to at times and somewhat distracting IMHO. Glad I finally got to hear such an album as revered as "The Chronic" outside of the radio hits. I especially liked "Lil' Ghetto Boy" and the twist done on the theme song to "$10,000 Pyramid" with "The $20 Sack Pyramid." For those that don't mind the language or subjects, it's easy to see why this album was so lit at the time of its release. But I doubt that I'll personally listen to "The Chronic" again.

"Illmatic" was great. Nas's flow was nice, the beats were great and it was not oversaturated with distracting foul language like a lot of hip-hop albums seem to be. Open to listening again to take in more of Nas' lyrics.

This was a fun album to listen to. Definitely reeks of 90s British rock nostalgia.
