1001 Albums Summary

I like Birth Of The Cool but not my favorite Miles stuff, some nice tracks that sound more full with the nine piece performances yet for me I prefer the smaller ensembles to the nonet recordings

Groundbreaking sampling masterwork still ahead of it’s time nearly thirty years on…as the NME once stated, DJ Shadow is the Jimi Hendrix or Jimmy Page of the sampler

One of my first introductions to Rush when I got hip to them at the age of 12 in ‘79. Great album with the epically long somewhat silly first side title track and equally awesome second side with the stoner paean ‘A Passage to Bangkok’ which is very cool to me being as I’ve actually taken an overnight train through the Thai countryside from Bangkok to Chiangmai before. Side two also contains the really underrated track ‘The Lesson’

Meh…Billy Corgan has to be one of the most overrated hacks of the last thirty plus years…decent guitarist but that cat whining voice is beyond annoying and the samey songs bore me to tears, Jimmy Chamberlain is a solid drummer though

A good record with some nice tracks however there are earlier and later records of his that I prefer overall to this one, specifically ‘The Boys Doin’ It’ on Casablanca records from a few years later

Not a big Flaming Lips fan, Coyne gets on my nerves a bit, they go full electro here, some interesting even nice moments but really meh overall
