Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Jan 10 2024

The songs are well written and performed, but ultimately, I can't understand why "Back to Black" (or Amy's singing) has a reputation as something wholly unique, as nearly everything about it is derivative of black artists who came before. Although, this is maybe more of a criticism of the industry than Amy's work itself. The album is also produced with that early 2000's "loudness" which hasn't aged well to my ears.

Graceland by Paul Simon
Jan 11 2024

Undeniably interesting and eclectic, however, Simon's unambitious, meandering vocals are outshined by all the other musicians around him. It captures an early 80's vibe that's similar to, and yet "safer" and more boring than, The Police's work of the same era (albeit better produced).

London Calling by The Clash
Jan 16 2024

Classic! but it falls off in the second half.

Basket of Light by Pentangle

I'm not on enough drugs for this
