I am not a TS fan, quite far from it, but I must say that this album is one of the better truly pop albums of this century. She, unfortunately for me, cooked here.
There were some interesting melodies and other aspects, but not once did I genuinely wanted to listen to any given song again.
There are a few possibilities:
1. This album has been sampled to death.
2. This album samples many hits.
3. I have unknowingly heard songs from this album on the radio, thus they all sound familiar.
In any case, it sounds like the type of music that comes on the radio on Saturdays when we clean the house :)
I enjoyed the first half of the album more. Overall, great experience, I felt like I really was doing homework (hehe) for the later Daft Punk albums by listening to this one :)
Alanis knows how to choose her singles, that's for sure. Everything else? Was not a big fan.
Fantastic album!
I really enjoyed how the songs flow into each other, one of the better parts of the album; I liked mixing of genres and some familiar sounds I have heard before in other artists I enjoy; overall a good listening experience. I will need to revisit the album to decide whether it is nice and interesting only once, or has replay value. At this point, I do not think it will hold up and it will end up being repetitive, but only time can tell.
Lars Ulrich LOVES his cymbals, I can say that much.
I would say I enjoyed the album overall. Some songs got tedious after a while, but maybe that's because I am not used to metal and have not listened to Metallica before (only some songs, but not on my own volition). I can see why this is one of the best-selling albums ever, very replayable and enjoyable, even for non-metal fans, such as myself.
Mr. Leonard's voice.... oh my dear god. The feelings I feel are indescribable and not safe for work. Just.... wow.
The melodies are incredible, the lyrics are heart-shattering and the vocals (both Cohen's and the background singers') are impeccable. What more could you want?
5/5.
solid 4, great album, just did not shake me personally
