Popular Reviews

Hot Fuss by The Killers

U2 have a lot to answer for. Soulless arena rock for chartered accountants. Stopped after 4 songs and put on Spirit of Eden 😡.

White Blood Cells by The White Stripes
Jan 07 2024

Quite a few lumpen plodders like I can learn. Hotel Yoruba = Dylan goes garage. Best were Dead Leaves and I fell in love with a girl. I struggle listening to a whole album of this.

Berlin by Lou Reed
Jan 08 2024

Self indulgent. A few interesting ideas for songs in there but needed someone to sort it out. A few good bass lines in there.

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Jan 09 2024

Good moody ballads. Really great ballsy rockers. Wondered what they sounded like fresh back in 1956

Ellington at Newport by Duke Ellington
Jan 10 2024

Great mix of jazz. Slow Blues. Jive. Horn players going mad for it.

Abraxas by Santana
Jan 12 2024

Good fun. Very much of its time. Prefer the tunes to the extended instrumental work outs. Haven’t listened to it for years. Good to go back to.

american dream by LCD Soundsystem
Jan 15 2024

Never REALLY listened closely to them. A bit like a Talking Heads for the 21st century. I need to listen to them more. A good find!

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Jan 16 2024

Perhaps a bit too familiar as I played it to death. Remembering holding baby Hana and swaying to some of these 😁. A few fillers I’d forgotten about but overall a great soft pop album with jazz, country, blues influences.

Skylarking by XTC
Jan 17 2024

Brilliant. Absolutely loved this. First XTC album heard all way through. Kept thinking of the Beatles.

Junkyard by The Birthday Party
Jan 18 2024

Nope. Not for me. A few riffs in there somewhere but not enough to hook me in

All Mod Cons by The Jam
Jan 22 2024

Brilliant. Great tunes with great lyrics. Mini stories. A classic.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Jan 23 2024

Brilliant opening track. Goes off a bit with some slower whimsical songs but a great run of songs at the end. Bigmouth. Boy with a thorn. There’s a light. Love it.

Step In The Arena by Gang Starr
Jan 25 2024

Love it. So far I’ve been listening to hip hop playlists and getting into that way. Good to listen to a recognised album. Definitely the kind of stuff I like

Rio by Duran Duran
Jan 27 2024

Classic stuff. Forgot there are so many tunes on this. Tacky but brilliant

Roger the Engineer by The Yardbirds
Jan 29 2024

Can see how it influenced everyone from Zeppelin to Spinal Tap. But in the end it’s too much of its time to interest me much.

Arrival by ABBA
Feb 07 2024

Classy 70s pop. They really knew what they were doing. Shame some of this has been borrowed by Partridge as a joke. A couple of fillers - real Saturday Seaside Specials. When I kissed the teacher would be more than a bit suspect these days. But very good for what it is

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Feb 10 2024

U2 have a lot to answer for. Soulless arena rock for chartered accountants. Stopped after 4 songs and put on Spirit of Eden 😡.

Endtroducing..... by DJ Shadow
Feb 13 2024

Wanted to like it but apart from Midnight in a Perfect world I was a bit underwhelmed. Loud beats. Some not v interesting dominates too much.
