I see the artistic value, but ultimately misses the mark. And the song "ironic" isn't ironic, it's just unfortunate.
That band is tight! Engineering hit or miss though, possibly had 2 different engineers doing different songs, and one was much better than the other
Awesome sampling work, but the vocals are hardly intelligible. Without the vocals to hold your attention, it starts to feel monotonous after a bit.
Great songs, great performance, great recording, bonus points for being a live recording of songs about prison inside a prison, great stage presence and crowd work, great audience response. This record was just about perfect

Very good, but all in all just sounded like another very good R&B album from a decade packed full of very good R&B albums. No songs really stood out.
It was ok, hard to focus on though. Some cool production but I couldn't latch on to the vocals, and it was pretty clearly supposed to be carried by the vocals.
I want to like Led Zeppelin so bad, it just doesn't hold up when they go prog. Recording quality isn't clear enough to support that sound. As soon as they hit a straight ahead rock beat the boomy drums instantly get you bobbing your head, but those moments are few and far between the later in their discography you listen. I wish I could give 3.5 stars because I respect the hell out of them for this record, it just doesn't hold up in the modern era.
I can hear the new decade in this record! Super innovative. Awesome guitar and bass playing, with an insanely tight band. It would lose points for being a bit repetitive but I respect it so much artistically I think I can round up.
So innovative! Really cool album. I was also impressed with the recording quality. You do eventually get a little tired of 9 minute songs, but they're not very repetitive so it's not bad.
Definitely sounds like its time, but you can't hold that against them. It sounds really good for its time at least. Fun, fast, and lots of social commentary. Very punk-y.

Definitely didn't know REM started in the 80s. This a really cool album, I can hear its impact in a lot of the alternative rock I like today. It's definitely ahead of its time, but in some moments, it does sound like its time; the vocals get buried but it's still very fun.
I had never listened to Bruce Springsteen before now, and after hearing this album, I'm glad I didn't. I read on Wikipedia that because of Bruce's perfectionism, this album took a year and a half to finish, but then I hit play and hear right off the bat the guitars are out of tune. So what kind of perfectionism is that?
I guess all he did was add as many instruments as he could think of for 18 months, because the tonal instruments were nothing more than a soup of noise, through which not even the drummer's valiant efforts to provide a little structure could be heard.
I thought maybe Bruce could salvage the effort with some brilliant songwriting or a compelling vocal performance, but instead he spent each song debasing what I'm sure was otherwise a perfectly nice microphone.
Overall, this album is just very noisy and unfocused. Not enjoyable.
