Jan 10 2024

Although unique in some of its arrangements and definitely containing some eclectic pop sounds, the album as a whole doesn’t stand out for me. The album as a whole is pretty safe and stays well within the late 60’s musical pop sounds, ensuring that it will be accepted by reviewers. There are only one or two songs that I will likely visit again, including All of My Friends and Picture Book, but really little more can be found that cannot be found elsewhere in the late 60’s pop music. When put beside albums by otrher artists within a couple of years before or after, there are albums that stand out far more.

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Jan 11 2024

The album starts with a 12 minute track; generally speaking, I do not enjoy songs that long but the composition of this track, even as a cover, makes it a great listen. The album as a whole contains some excellent blues elements, jazz swoops and oozes with the soul that Isaac Hayes was famous for, accented beautifully with the orchestral sway, and dotted with some very interesting psychedelic-ness. Hyper brings some smooth funk and One Woman is an answer to the lovely smoothness of being loved by Issac Hayes. A very solid album even though it is outside of my general preferences.
