U2
Bloody Sunday slaps. How long? Slaps forever.
Seconds? Slaps
New Year’s Day slaps.
Like a Song sounds like a song. Can’t win them all.
Red Light slaps. I’ve got the boogie. Love love love love love. TRUMPET! Staccato! Notes are accented and separated. My old neighbor Billy would love this shit. I think. Everything is intense with him. Dude can read a book and recite it word for word back. Had that savant ‘tism. I hope he’s doing well. Fuck yeah Billy! Red Light’s for you!
Surrender is ok but I’m ready to end the album. I’m hopped up on Mountain Dew and Bono boy is winding down.
“40” is a good smokin song. BUT WHAT SONG ISNT AMIRITE? Slow vibes. One step up from sad boy lofi. Dad rock ballad.
Solid album.

Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire)
The Kinks
I ran through this whole album without stopping. It certainly felt like a journey. I was working, so I’ve made second stop on my favorite songs to discuss them a bit more. Yes sir, no sir. Permission to speak sir? That song stands out for its two different tones when the narrator switches between an infantryman to a general. I really liked it.
I could relate with feelings of helplessness, overwhelming odds, and dreams of games we played when we were young in Some Mother’s Son. Breaks my heart how relevant it is.
My favorite song is Shangri-La. Speaks to me. Maybe they were talking about the people who have it all, but I feel like the little man with a mortgage over my head. Except, there’s no train to catch, I’m already in Shangri-La. Maybe that’s the point. He’s in Shangri-La too. Where things are as good or as crap as you make them.
Life ain’t so happy in your little Shangri-La. I feel that.
Mr. Churchill brings out the happy naked dance in me.

Blunderbuss
Jack White
I tried listening at 7am and didn’t like it.
I had to be okay with Jack melting my face off and I just wasn’t ready to surrender.
Whether it’s the mind scrambling guitar solo in Freedom At 21, your ears falling off in missing pieces, or the knife twisting genty in Love Interruption, Jack knows how to alter your state of mind towards the introspective with his musical and lyrical prowess.
I feel like this man had a love that shredded him to his foundational components. Almost like he was shot with a Blunderbuss.
Ah, this 2012 album makes sense now:
In June 2011, White and his wife Karen Elson, who provided backing vocals for Blunderbuss,[8] announced their intention to divorce and subsequently held a divorce party.
I mean, good for them. She’s got great backing vocals.

Queens of the Stone Age
Queens of the Stone Age
Josh Homme makes jukebox songs for a rundown bar in Georgia where the devil bartends.
This album doesn’t have the same hook for me as the next three albums (R, Songs for the Deaf, Lullabies to Paralyze, all three get 5 stars from me)but I can appreciate the grunge roots here. In a primordial soup of reverb I can see the artifacts of the future QotSA start to surface. Album pairs nice with copious amounts of substance abuse, as all QotSA albums do.
You Can’t Quit Me Baby shows off Homme’s entrancing voice the best in my opinion, and the guitar play here sounds like the first dabbles in a direction that gets perfected in “Little Sister” on Lullabies to Paralyze. Sidebar - If you enjoy his sustained notes, do your self a favor and enjoy the entire Lullabies album. One last note about You Can’t Quit Me Baby: the guitars screaming off of each other at the end was uncomfortably awesome and leads into the haggardness of the next song perfectly.
I Was A Teenage Hand Model was a great pick for an ending song. It’s an odd goodbye.
3 stars.

Dr. Octagonecologyst
Dr. Octagon
I have finished my review. Dr. Octagon is a horn dog with lyrical raps. Nice beats. A lot of doctor fantasies. The skits were wild, and the musical direction is myriad. There’s heavy guitar in I’m Destructive. Sci fi chants in halfsharkalligatorhalfman. This is probably the most well put together mating call of the bunch:
