Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake
Jan 11 2024

Easy listening, folk-y serene with great string, piano, and percussion parts. Vocals are soothing, if a bit monotone. Overall, a beautiful album from an artist I had no idea existed until today. Memorable songs: Time Has Told Me, Three Hours, Cello Song, The Thoughts of Mary Jane, Saturday Sun

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Jan 12 2024

So this is the artist that does "Blister in the Sun", of course! The vocals are grating, but the bass line in some of these songs is great. Lyrics are...strange. Some of these key changes and general tunes are bizarre, as well. Not my cup of tea in general. Memorable songs: Blister in the Sun, Confessions, Ugly

Abraxas by Santana
Jan 15 2024

In a word: sultry. I've always been a fan of Santana, and this album rocks. Smooth guitar/lyrics/rhythm. I guess it's also jam band-y, which I didn't really understand about Santana until now. An easy album to put on in the background and simply enjoy. Memorable songs: Black Magic Woman, Oye Como Va, Samba Pa Ti

Disraeli Gears by Cream
Jan 17 2024

Definitely a 60s vibe. Easy listening, but can certainly see how it shaped the minds of a generation. This band was only around for two years? Wild.

Play by Moby
Jan 18 2024

These guys are tons of fun. I had to look up what exactly this music is, and the Wikipedia blurb is great: "...according to Spin magazine's Will Hermes, Play was "the high-water mark for populist electronica" and a "millennial roots and blues masterwork",[7] while John Bush from AllMusic said it balanced Moby's early electronica sound with the emergent breakbeat style of techno." Electronica. Cool. Memorable songs: Honey, Find My Baby, Bodyrock,

Metal Box by Public Image Ltd.
Jan 24 2024

This is the first album I've come across that I do not like. Seriously, at all. Scratchy vocals that are out of tune. Guitar riffs and keys that make no sense. The only possibly redeeming quality is some of the bass line is decent. Other than that, no thanks. Didn't make it past the first few songs.
