Document by R.E.M.
Jan 11 2024

Upbeat and feelgood, enjoyed probably 80% of the tracks. If I had to criticise it, it's a bit samey. I was never really able to get on board with Stipe's voice but the musicianship from the rest of the band is great - not particularly complex but effective.

Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Jan 12 2024

One of the best rock albums of all time, set the precedent for essentially every rock and metal album in existence after it. Jimmy Page's guitar work is imperious, Robert Plant's voice is as raw as ever and lyrically he's brilliant, Bonham's drumming is perfection, and John Paul Jones is metronomic as always. Has this live feel that I don't think many - if any - other albums can match. About as close to perfect as a rock album can be.

Since I Left You by The Avalanches
Jan 15 2024

Album flows really well but I really can't shake the feeling that it's just a background album. Like I wouldn't necessarily sit down to listen to it, but I would absolutely have it on in the background at a party/gathering and it would compliment that situation perfectly. It doesn't really have any stand-out highlights but also no boring parts. Sampling work is very impressive.

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground

Enjoyed the album, very laid back and would definitely want to be listening to this chilling in the sun with a beer. The Murder Mystery just completely derailed the album for me, what on earth was going on there? Doesn't fit with the rest of the album at all, goes on far too long and just sounds really uneasy. Vibe killed, which is a shame because the rest of the album is great.

Lust For Life by Iggy Pop
Jan 17 2024

A side is just hit after hit after hit. B side is slightly weaker and trails off so can't give it a perfect score, but an iconic album nonetheless. His voice is great on this record and love the raw, almost live feel to it.

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Jan 18 2024

Album flows so incredibly well. His voice is just amazing. Iconic album that could've been recorded today and would still sound fresh. Don't think I'll ever live down the way I treated it in educating, don't know what I was thinking. This is a perfect album.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Jan 22 2024

Eclectic album, a lot of different genres/sounds on here. Enjoyed it for the most part, but got a bit weak near the end (apart from American Girl of course). If it had kept the quality of the earlier tracks I would have enjoyed it more, but I ended up just waiting for American Girl. Also a very weird placement of that track, feels like a perfect opener. Tom Petty's guitar work is quality, without being overly technical or complex.
