A 3.5 star album for me. This album's like a sonic time capsule for early 70's LA. Songs about killers, a bustling city, alcohol and prostitution. Jim paints a vivid picture of a crime filled LA in which citizens (and likely himself, who struggled with drug abuse) can't seem to find their place. Unfortunately some songs seem to fill up a spot and offer not much but a simple blues jam. Nevertheless a very enjoyable album. Highlights are: Been Down So Long LA Woman Riders Of The Storm
3/4 of this album is great. Kurt combines catchy melodies with heavily distorted, fast paced guitars. His vocals are unbelievable too. The other quarter is forgettable and sounds like filler, perhaps that could change with more listens. Something In The Way is one of the best songs I've ever heard I think. 4/5
Bangers on bangers on silly filler on bangers. I enjoy so many songs off this album and have had phases with different songs for years. Most recently I was loving Outside Woman Blues and Take It Back, both less psychedelic than much of the album but excel at being catchy, groovy blues tunes with killer performances from the band. Definitely a few weaker tracks but oddly it doesn't seem to detract a lot from the album experience for me. Probably easier to list the tracks I think are weaker because everything else I enjoy immensely. Weak tracks: - Blue Condition - Mother's Lament (pretty funny tho, just an odd fit) 4.5/5
