1001 Albums Summary

Quintessential Afro-Beat. I listened to the extended addition with "Observation No Crime" and a live version of "Mistake"

From the concert that revived the career of Duke Ellington. There are a couple different variations of this album. The classic version is actually live mixed with studio, but you can find the "all-live" release also. "Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue" is the clear standout, but the entire album is a great example of "live" swing.

Sounds a bit like mid-period Beatles. The influence by the Kinks on Parquet Courts was obvious.

The first album on here where I already knew every song. I had to go check that it wasn't a greatest hits album. The story behind the creation of this album was fascinating. I won't relay it here, but it gave me a greater appreciation for the classic rock staples that I had previously dismissed as just 70s pop-rock.

Love this album. Herbie Hancock's entrance into a funk and it's a classic!

You can hear the influence on modern jazz/prog/jam bands in this album. I accidentally moved on to the "Root Down" live album after this album and I think I like that one even better.

Great album from Stevie Wonder and even more impressive to see that he played 90% of the instruments on the album. Introduced me to the concept of prog-soul. I'd heard of prog-rock before, but not prog-soul.
