Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Mar 25 2024

Generally a pretty solid album: a defining and great example of its genre. Marley's uniquely captivating lyricism and vocals are no-doubt the carrying feature, but the instrumentation is adequate too (if a bit uncreative at times). Groovy. Favourite Track: Waiting In Vain Specific Rating: 3.6/5

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Mar 26 2024

This is a difficult one to rate, incredibly timeless and objectively a brilliant album but I find certain elements to be quite predictable and somewhat repetitive. The vocals are an absolute rush of energy and the instrumentation is gorgeous in many places. Overall it is full of life and a very enjoyable listen but not my personal type of music- though I feel it may grow on me in the future. Favourite Track: Ain’t No Way Specific Rating: 3.6/5

Mar 27 2024

Artistically and lyrically a great album, the production and jazz-fusion elements are aspiring but not as established as in other similar albums. It’s got a few gems but is not the all-round best work ‘A Tribe Called Quest’ has to offer by any means. Favourite Track: Youthful Expression Specific Rating: 3.3/5

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Mar 28 2024

A superlative coke-fuelled masterpiece, almost everything about this album is just incredible. It builds very well on the previous Black Sabbath albums and adds the instrumentation and timbric diversity that they lacked- especially in the unconventional but gorgeous ‘Changes’ and ‘Laguna Sunrise’. Each instrument blends flawlessly together on every track and create the haunting essence which envelopes the album- ‘Cornucopia’ is a great example of this. The album‘s captivating opening and closing songs tie it all together, ‘Wheels of Confusion’ is an almost psychedelic show of energy and ‘Under the Sun’ is defined by its incredible haunting solos. Overall I think it’s the perfect example of an innovative early-metal album that genuinely sucks you in. And it’s just really fucking cool. Favourite Track: Wheels of Confusion Specific Rating: 4.6/5

Blue by Joni Mitchell
Apr 01 2024

A beautiful and emotional work of art, I don’t think there’s many songwriters that can capture so much emotion in both their voice and instruments simultaneously. Joni’s lyrics and voice are equally captivating and are even further supported by the incredible instrumentation that define them. I think the dynamics of this album are what brings it up to level with some of the greatest folk albums of the 70s: every single note holds so much emotional power in a way you simply don’t witness in the vast majority of music. Favourite Track(s): Little Green and River Specific Rating: 4.5/5
