1001 Albums Summary

Very "tinny" mastering, lots of upper mids Drums a bit too high in the mix for my taste (snare especially) Love the synth / melodica treatment on Money Changes Everything Not sure if they're using a electronic drum kit but it's quite distracting and sterile sounding, which is a shame I don't mind the guitar tone here, but if it went slightly edgier like Andy Summers / Police sound w/ chorus I think it would've been great For a pop album I think the songwriting is great Time After Time is a classic He's So Unusual - cringe Overall - classic album with pop hits that still stand up 40 years later, the production is a mixed bag - the louder / fast songs seem to benefit from the mix but slower songs like Time After Time, while lyrically great seem to suffer from a less-than-optimal mix.

Never got into The Band until my mid 40s, better late than never - truly a classic.

Old enough to remember the hype when this came out. I was around 19ish and was definitely NOT into electronic music at that point of my life. I did enjoy Firestarter and the video on MTV etc, but never had actually listened to this album until now which is surprising since in my later years I have become a fan of electronic music especially groups like The Chemical Brothers who were clearly influenced by The Prodigy. Still, not a huge fan of this album. Has some good tracks like "Breathe" but a lot of it doesn't do much for me. Some of the tracks seem to do a bit better with diversity of samples and layering where some like "Serial Thrilla" are quite frankly repetitive and kinda boring. Overall, as someone who appreciates electronic music I can definitely underststand critics and fans putting this album in legendary status but for me personally it's not something I will want to listen to again front-to-back.

Kind of a novelty album, but it's been sampled so many times it's hard not to love it. Decent horns and production though.

Not a bad song on the album really. Completely classic Dan. I am a middle-aged dad, I say so. This album cover is very bizarre though. Not a fan.

Hadn't heard this one but as a fan of BB's poiltical "fuck you" attitude it defintitely didn't disappoint. Nice arrangements.

This kinda thing definitely isn't something I regularly would listen to. It's "fine?" Sounds like over-produced pop/hip-hop. Some of the grooves are good, but it just sounds so polished it has almost no soul? Ocean's vocals are silky smooth sure, but can't place it but it just feels too produced for my liking.

Lotta people hating on good ole' SS. I rather enjoyed this album, but get the critiques on his vocals. Otherwise pretty low-key enjoyable southern rock / country rock.
