Stankonia by OutKast
Jun 19 2024

As someone who has not listened to Hip-Hop that much, this album is amazing. I like the beats on songs like So Fresh, So Clean; and Ms. Jackson. I think this could have been a little tighter and been an insane 45 min album as some tracks I don't care for. The guitar solo on B.O.B. is psychedelic out of nowhere and it elevates the track so much.

I didn't care for much for this album, it's mainly the main vocalist's voice that I don't really like

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós

Initially listening to this album, I heard a lot of similar sounds to other artists that I like. What I was surprised to find out was that this album predates all of them. I love the chamber group arrangements whether that be the string octet or the brass group. The otherworldly sounds that this album contains are lovely and the way these sounds were created with live instruments gives this album a unique quality.

Synchronicity by The Police
Jun 25 2024

I can't believe famous Dune (1984) actor Sting makes music! I like most of the grooves, however Mother is atrocious and takes this album down a lot.

Slipknot by Slipknot

I like the use of drum samples with a live kit. The lyrics get too angsty for my taste. The drummer is very proficient with drumming and constantly is doing insane fills. There are points that I wish this album had contrasting sections to the endless onslaught of their sound as my ears got tired of their sound.

Ill Communication by Beastie Boys
Jun 27 2024

This album is brought down in my mind by the several instrumental interludes that feel like they are half of the album. I think that if you remove some of them this album gets a lot stronger.

Definitely Maybe by Oasis

How much you like this album is how much you like the blend of more modern stylings of rock and classic British albums like Revolver (Beatles), Ziggy Stardust (Bowie), and London Calling (The Clash). For me, I really liked this blend and I think it gets pulled off well.

This album is good. The framing device of it being a different band playing the music is a little goofy but charming. I like the use of a Clarinet quartet on When I’m Sixty Four. In terms of Beatles albums I find myself going back to Revolver and Abbey Road significantly more than this album. It drags a bit in the middle with For The Benefit of Mr. Kite, and Within You Without You.

I really liked the beats, the lyricism was top notch on this album. The only thing I don't like is Ye being featured and the producer.

Modern Kosmology by Jane Weaver

It was ok, I don't 100% understand why this was chosen over other albums, but I'm fine with the author just putting in a personal favorite

The first three songs I was familiar with before listening and they are all good. The rest of the album creates a soundscape of ambient desert music. I think it is executed well, however not really my thing.

Music From Big Pink by The Band
Jul 09 2024

For an album that is apparently really influential to rock, I don't hear it.
