Arguably a very influential Hip Hop album, just not really my thing unfortunately, if I was to rate it based of it's influence I'd give it maybe a 3-4. But basing it just of the music I wasn't a huge fan. But that's just my taste.
The Changeling - Solid Opener Good walking track. Good baseline. Strong Pre Chorus and Chorus main riff. Good dual leads on closing riff with a memorable tone. Ok Drums Good Rhythm, good growly vocals.
Love her madly - Very strong Intro, fun chord changes, groovy keyboard. Strong in and out guitar. OK Chorus. Thought provoking ish.
Nice guitar solo pairs well with keys.
Been down so long - Very strong vocal intro, catchy guitar and hook. Repetitive and simple yet effective bass
Car hiss by the Window - Slow and mellow, good groove, slightly mid guitar solo
L.A Woman -Strong Drum and bass intro, Good dance track, very long, controversial but I feel for the length of the song it doesn't really develop much.
L'America - Unique Opening guitar riff, strong fade into bass, eerie tone with keys. I like how each instrument fades in and out. Very Experimental sounding. Huge shift in mood at 2:08, far more enjoyable, doesn't last long enough.
Another shift at 2:55, slightly different to earlier. The song is almost disturbing at times.
Whilst I respect the vision I did not enjoy the song whatsoever.
Hyacinth House - Very good keys, Keys harmonising with vocals. Very good vocals and keys, overlapping vocals. Powerful almost.
Crawling King Snake - Nothing particularly bad but nothing hugely of note.
WASP - Keyboard MVP
Riders on the storm - Definitely the best on the album, but still not hugely impressive.
Final notes, Personally not a huge fan but I respect the album, For 1971 it was very different and probably influential. For the genre itself it's definitely a must pick, just not a fan of early prog rock
Really like the title track and really really like thousands sailing. Metropolis is a cool instrumental. Fiesta and New York fairytale both deserving of being hits. Not a huge fan of the genre but didn't mind this, respect the talent and skill of the album.
Closing thoughts - I thought the album was incredibly well made, the high points of the album were great, just not a fan of the genre
Clearwater at their finest, great high points and a great album to work too.
Didn't completely manage to finish, but from what I heard no wonder they call him the king
One of the best albums by far I've heard. Every song was masterfully written and performed with amazing mixing. Does not surprise me why this album is frequently so high on rankings, will definitely be listening again.
Really strong stand out riffs, could have been better vocal mixing
1969 Folk Rock.
Lots of instrumentals and small elements of prog. Not a huge fan of many but The opening track Darkness, Darkness ,Francis Drake and Sham were quite enjoyable. Felt very different for 1969.
This is a 3 in my opinion but very close to a 4, my just be my setup but the production was not that great. However for the time (1980) this album doesn't sound similar to anything else I could think of I know around the time. It sounds exactly like early 90s British underground indie
Which is saying alot coming out of 1980.
Highlight tracks were
I wanna destroy you.
Positive Vibrations
Tonight
Underwater moonlight.
I listened to the original 10 track but I may come listen to the 40 track reissue in future.
Overall solid but not to my taste. May listen again.
I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said.
This album like many other Beatles albums is a masterpiece, you couldn't take away one song without hurting the album. Every single song tries something new and absolutely perfects it. 10/10
This album has been really conflicting to listen to, I'm a huge fan of the first police album, and this sounds nothing like that, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The title track is really strong, and builds up momentum for in maybe a controversial opinion that goes absolutely nowhere as I think side 1 is just kind of bad?
Side 2 picks up again fairly quickly.
I feel like a 2 is too harsh but a 3 is to high for how much I enjoyed it. I'd give it a 2.5 if I could.
I think the actual concept of the album is really good, I haven't seen anything like it before, with that being said however, if you take away the concept part, you're left with far too much plain blueish music. There's definitely some highlights, but not near enough to justify it's length.
I honestly was kinda disappointed by this one, I've always heard this is like one of THE pop rock albums to listen to.
Aside from the hits and Dirty Diane, I didn't really remember much of the album afterwards, it felt like it was lacking a certain spark. However the musicianship was brilliant. I think a 3 is fair, I didn't think it was bad, just didn't live up to my expectations, which isn't necessarily it's fault.
