1001 Albums Summary

The whole rap genre is generally not my thing and since I'm old enough to know the original, Wycliffe contributed nothing useful to Killing Me Softly. But Ready or Not and Fugee La are notable standouts.

I've had Violator since it was released, along with all the previous albums and most of the singles to having to listen to it again as part of the 1001 albums was a treat as it's been a few years since I listened to it as a complete album (rather than individual tracks). Excellent.

Honestly, I listened to this yesterday and it was OK. Nothing stood out apart from the game of working out what's been sampled. I knew Description of a Fool and Can I kick It? but a whole album of more or less the same thing? Nah. I'm 60 already. Time is short and I can't see how this is one of the albums I have to listen to before I die.

I think if I've made it to 60 without listening to AC/DC it's probably not true that this is one of the albums I have to listen to before I die.

I know I should like Talking Heads and in many ways I do. I like Stop Making Sense, Speaking In Tongues, Remain in Light but not this one. There's just something unbearably whiny about his voice like he's trying to sing a little higher than he can comfortably manage.
