Yep. The king of countrybillycrooning. Sounds like he was still experimenting with his "sound." Fun stuff.

Creative crunchy sounds, meters, the instrumentation sometimes lush, often spare. Precious whiney vocals of a depressed person who thinks very highly of himself. Can't take too much of this listening vibe, but heard all tracks.

It's darker, alright. So Cohen: a thinker's lyrics combined with hardly any melody and a few amen chords. Still fascinating.
