L.A. Woman by The Doors

Feel a bit bad in rating this so low since I do know how influential the doors are (and I can see the stems of that influence in here). But good god this is one of the most middling and annoying records I’ve listened to. No Jim Morrison I do not think that you wailing the word ‘woman’ in various afflictions counts as a good song structure!

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Oct 04 2024

First time listening to a Neil album and it was so lovely. Excellent guitar playing and I love the softness his voice has here. Feels so vulnerable.

Queen II by Queen
Oct 05 2024

Not a huge Queen person to be quite honest, and this album didn't really change me from my stance. Obviously Freddie is an incredible talent but everything else felt so indistinct. Listened to this album through twice and it was hard for me to determine where certain songs started or ended because they all sounded so similar and washed out. Brian May is just such an overrated guitarist in a band that truly shines as a singles band in my eyes.

Arrival by ABBA

ABBA is like the ultimate singles band. The deep cuts on this thing are forgettable but those singles…just the best of the best

Home Is Where The Music Is by Hugh Masekela
Oct 06 2024

Afrobeat and Jazz are both genres I haven't listened much of, but have been wanting to dive further into. This album was a lovely surprise! wasn't expecting myself to dig it as much as I am currently. A lovely easy listening experience paired with some incredible musicianship.

The Clash by The Clash
Oct 07 2024

Solid debut. But I think it leans too much sometimes into wanting to sound like the sex pistols and that's a punk sound I'm personally not too fond of. Especially considering some of the later Clash songs I've heard that sound a lot more interesting and dynamic. Still a fun listen and one I think I'll come back to!

Oct 08 2024

Came into this expecting that it wouldn’t be my thing, but I surprisingly enjoyed it! Dylan’s voice can get obviously grating sometimes but these melodic structures are so sublime that I can’t fully complain. Also that final track is absolutely stunning. Need to listen to it more to really dig into the lyrics but yeah glad for this to be my first full Dylan album listen!

Joan Baez by Joan Baez

Ethereal.

Took me some time to really get into the vocals here but nonetheless such a fun record. More punk music by weird horny bisexual guys!!

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground

Velvet underground are highly praised and regarded for a good fucking reason!! Amazing album

good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar

Kinda embarrassed it took me this long to get to this album, but sooooo worth it. Just an absolute modern masterclass of modern songwriting.
