One of the strongest openers to an album imaginiable. Incredibly solid. I've always found the band's self assessment of "we just played the blues really fast" such an undervaluing of themselves.
I will probably be really into this in like 10 years time but this for me doesn't rise above what I'd hear in like a waiting room or elevator. Not feeling it.
Never really landed with me, was always more of a Blur guy in the very-ginned-up fake competition between the two. Never got their own comparisons to The Beatles, to me it's so apparent this is above average 90s rock revival, not like some groundbreaking sea change like The Beatles.
Came at the absolute right time in my youth so left an impression. M1 A1 is like tattoed in my brain at this point
Kind of undeniable. I find a lot of his later stuff his voice grates on me, but this feels very key, like a base foundation of a lot that came later, whilst not feeling like overly simplistic or lacking depth or production or whatever.
The Monkees of punk rock, insofar as a complete construction by a label, but like far better than they should have been!
