Young Americans
David Bowie
Iconic title track feels timeless. At the time of release it was a shock after the glam rock period and it took time for this new Bowie period to sink in. Listening over the years it's become one of my favorite Bowie albums. Full of great songs and great Philly soul grooves. Great performances all around, especially the back-up singers who almost outshine Bowie throughout the album.

Classic, amazing, innovative. Launched thousands of musicians to push the boundaries of what rock quitar playing and sogwriing could be. I was instantly reminded of Prince in the diversity of songwriting and the sheer musicianship. A truly great album. Please buy a physical copy, it is well worth it.

If you were to listen to the tracks on this album without knowing the name of the album, you would think its a greatest hits package. So many iconic songs that have become almost cliche, except for the fact the songs are amazing and still hold up decades later.

What a voice! Great song selection by the producer, Johnny Franz. .The production is like taking a time machine back to 1964. You can smell the cigarettes and booze in this recording. A gem.

The Notorious Byrd Brothers
The Byrds
Another classic, 60s album from the band tha launched a thousand bands. The open track, "Artificial Energy" sounds like what the record company wanted them to open the album with (maybe the title is tongue in cheek?), very up and radio friendly. The song Draft Morning is a great "freak-out" song that Wilco may have had in mind on YHF. The rest of the album is what you'd expect from the Byrds, chiming guitars, incredible melodies, unusual arrangements. All in all, a pretty damn good album.

Not discounting the opinion of those that absolutely love the genre of music, I've never been a fan of jam-bands and jam-based music, and this album is no different. I listened through to the end, but found it was still uninteresting and a bit self-indulgent (23+ minutes of Whipping Boy?).

The Notorious B.I.G.
I have tried repeatedly over the past thirty years to get into this genre of rap, but I still find it more akin to poetry than music. While this album has some very interesting bed tracks, the repetitive subject matter that feels so relentlessly negative and frankly, cliched. I respect the effort, but I would not listen to this at home or in my car.

One of Bowie's most experimental albums, but the iconic title track draws them in. Enjoy!

From a simpler time. Straightforward classic metal. Production is minimalistic, showcasing the band as they are. Break out the Z-28 with the Pioneer Supertuner and your 6 x 9 Jensons.
