Hunky Dory
David BowieChanges is a forever bop. New appreciation for Bowie’s lyricism, especially on Life on Mars? Start to see the evolution of Ziggy Stardust.

Only have heard Smoke on the Water from Deep Purple before listening to this album. Hot start on Speed King. Child in Time rips. Flight of the Rat has some, dare I say, Hendrixesque strats. Hear shades of King Crimson and dash, just a dash of Zeppelin.
Just listened to “Cosmic Slop” for the first time the other day so this is fitting. Eddie Hazel shreds on the 10 minute intro “Maggot Brain”. “Can You Get To That” and “Hit It and Quit It” are still my favorites on the album.
I’ve listened to the album a few times and own it in my record collection, but never really dive into the lyrics / story throughout. Considered the first concept album in country music, Nelson bucks the traditional / overproduced Nashville Sound with a stripped down, bare bones approach and it’s a delightful listen. Easy listening country with some great covers, including “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain.” I’ve been on a little bit of a Willie kick of late and loved the re-listen with this context.
Second of Bowie’s Berlin series and my first listen through. Didn’t know what to expect and ran along with on the treadmill. Title track is still iconic and stands out as the albums main single. Side B is all instrumental except for the final song which wasn’t necessarily my jam for the time listening but had I listened as a brooding teen or in a remote listening experience instead of on a treadmill, it may have struck more of a chord. Fun fact: Robert Fripp, lead guitarist from King Crimson is on guitar for this album.
Jailbreak. Southbound. Boys are Back in Town. Solid live album and learned some new Thin Lizzy songs I’d never heard before. Fun listen.
First time listening to this album and I’m pleas talk surprised with how many genres of music are melded together— punk, rockabilly, reggae, ska, psychedelic rock. Punk usually isn’t my jam but really enjoyed this album and have some new songs to add, particularly “Spanish Bombs” (love the guitar riff), The Guns of Brixton (killer opening bass line) and Wrong ‘Em Boyo.
Ultimate stadium / gym rock album. Lyrics are basic, riffs are 🔥, bad day to be a PR Hells Bells, Shoot To Thrill, Back in Black, Shook Me All Night Long
First Jazz album I’ve listened to from start to finish and made for solid heads down working music. I’ve heard a few of his songs, including “Riot” which was sampled in an Earl Sweatshirt song, “Riot!” He’s a very talented trumpeter and his backstory is very interesting. He’s known as “The Father of South African Jazz” and defected from SA in the early 60s with the help of Dizzy Gillespie and Harry Belafonte. I’ll need to read more about him and listen to some of his other notable work. 🎺 Update: TIL that Earl Sweatshirt is Hugh Masekela’s nephew. Definitely going to go down a wiki rabbit hole later.
New wave really isn’t my…Jam, but can appreciate. Recognize the Clash and The Police influences.
Enjoyable listen especially So In Love. Somewhat of a departure from his grander arranged albums like Curtis and Superfly but still worth the listen.
Not really for me. Solsbury Hill is the main song to takeaway.
I’m good, thanks
Not for me. Listened to the first two songs and the consistent static sound throughout the songs isn’t working.
Groovy 60s Brit rock band. Before listening to this album, only knew their song, “Dear Mr. Fantasy.” Recognized “Feelin’ Alright?” And really enjoyed “Don’t Be Sad”
First time listening through from top to bottom and really enjoyed it. So many great songs on this album.
Considered the first popular music concept album, Sgt Peppers is the gold standard. Bops galore and sounds very modern for being released over 55 years ago.
Easy listening with some howling guitars Dad rock to the core. Top: “Take It Easy” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling”
Perfect album for an afternoon snowfall. Unfortunately, I have the flu while listening to this but has cleared some congestion in my ear passages.
