Kind of goes through different genres finding a sound. Very garage rocky and less grunge which feels more raw. I can see this putting people off as maybe not as polished. Even heart shaped box feels this way. Favorite song Tourette’s, felt it fit the bands personality and sound best, ie. played to their best features.
Very much playing into southern rock which I enjoy more than later albums. Good energy. Can imagine listening to this at an outside bar in the summer. Or watching rally cars. I can see this one scoring low if you don’t already like kings of Leon or this genre. Nothing jumps off the album but I think would be really fun to listen live. Standout track genius.
I always enjoy when an album has a bassist that does not just pluck a couple notes. I think this was groovy and fun. Then it got way jammier than I thought and threw me off. Good for a time and a place. Standout track the world is a ghetto. Fun hearing the original song sampled by asap mob/method man.
This one was something I can appreciate people enjoying but not the most exciting for me. Sound is good but not something I’ll come back to.
I’m not a huge fan of this sound. The drums aren’t my cup of tea. It seems to teeter between a few genres I can’t put my finger on. I feel like a band like show me the body took a lot from this sound, but this album felt like a building block that could be expanded upon.
I enjoyed most of this album. The start of it wailed a little too much for me and had me concerned, but really started enjoying as it worked into itself. Standout track manenberg revisited. Good resolution in some songs that tied it together.
Not a huge fan of this. Could never really put my finger on it but I didn’t love oasis when younger and still don’t. Not much else from me on it.
Stevie wonder’s always a joy to listen to. Some really interesting sounding sounds and his voice stands out. I’m a sucker for soul/funk bass so this hits the right notes for me. Standout track: too shy to say
Arcade fire has never been my favorite artist but I can respect their music. Couldn’t be an early 2000’s album without a wailing “OoooooooOOOoooo” section on wake up. Overall some good sounds I enjoyed and catchy bits. I am fairly certain this is a concept album but because I listen to these at work I don’t really tune in to the lyrics much. Which may make this not as highly rated for me, and if I had time to listen might move it up. Standout track neighborhood #3.
This album surprised me a good amount. I had never listened but the sound of the drums and bass were really enjoyable to me. Lots of fun stuff going on. This album was the biggest surprise of me so far on the list. Stand out track hold on.
This is album comes and goes for me. I didn’t get a really close listen but I would play this again.
Not extremely high on how psychedelic this one is. Really enjoyed just one track being revolution. I want to give it an 2 but even with that song I’ve got to stay 1. Otherwise droned on. Surprised this came out in 89. I did NOT listen to the whole album as an fyi for my rating.
I forget what I gave this listening to it so I’ll give it a 3
My comments didn’t save but I didn’t love this. Back from a work conference so missed last week.
I had never heard of this band. Does it kind of sound like slow Muse? Maybe? In rainbows by Radiohead? Sounds well produced and recorded with a lot of care. It was okay, won’t come back but not unenjoyable.
Production was good on some songs and technical skill was there. Felt like it called back to some early metal, but didn’t love it all the way through, and I enjoy heavier things. Not bad not good.
Pretty enjoyable. This was a needed change in our listens recently. Eminem’s story telling is on another level and Dr Dre produced something great. My name is standout track. This came out at the perfect time.
